Private Reserve: Inks you're looking forward to...

Maybe I'm late to the party but I just received an email from Goulet Pens with the good news that Private Reserve are back in stock!

Let's hope Cosmic Cobalt is on the to-be-resurrected list.

What are the PR inks you're hoping to see return to the market?

I like Cosmic Cobalt, too.  As well, Lake Placid Blue and DC Supershow Electric Blue, except that the latter takes forever to dry on almost any paper.

I don't want to spoil the party but will the inks retain their original colours and properties ? From what I understand the original owner/creator died and never shared his formulas with others .

Never managed to pick up the latter two but it wouldn't hurt to, would it?

I believe his daughter (?) started work on the few notes he made but then sadly never finished her work either. It may be that some will be reverse engineered and others totally reformulated - I'm no expert on PR by any means, but I look forward to seeing what transpires.

That's good news. Private Reserve has long been one of my staple ink brands though some of my favourite PR inks became less impressive in their post-Terry Johnson incarnation.

Hopefully we'll see better continuity in ink formulation in this transition.

Depends on what you mean by "original". Terry Johnson died in 2013. AFAIK the changes in formulation caused by his passing have long since been reflected in the product line.

The question now is whether Darla Aniline had better documented, more repeatable production processes in place. I'm guessing yes. If she'd outsourced production it would have been necessary to document it. If production was "in-house" she probably learned her lesson from Terry's passing and documented things well.

There is already some background/history/speculation about this in a different thread that appeared shortly after Darla's death:

I've used their Tropical Blue for years.  Works well in all my pens and is beautiful on paper.

It's not what you look at, but what you see when you look.

I've just done a comparison on the new and old PR Ebony Purple and I have a quick peak at PR American Blue.

And @ErrantSmudge did a look at PR Sherwood Green then and now.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I only had one bottle pre-closure. A bottle of PR Plum which is one of my favourite purples.

Now that it's back, I bought a bottle of Blue Suede after my wife spotted a sample of it and liked it.

I also bought samples of Avocado and Supershow Blue to see what the fuss is about. While the blue is indeed eye-searing, I do like the look of Avocado, but not enough to buy a bottle until my other greens go down a bit.

My recollection is that after Tom died  Darla took over Private Reserve, after Darla died, Private Reserve floundered....and I believe the Company, or the name or the licensing was purchased by YAFA....the same company that owns Monteverde...

Perhaps someone else can confirm or correct my memory.

I'd been looking for an original bottle of Supershow Blue unsucessfully, but bought a new bottle of it. So far it hasn't "wowed" me the way I thought it might, so I'm wondering how it compares to original.

I have a bunch of old stuff-not helped by the fact that in ~2012ish when I was first seriously into this, I had two places local to me where I could buy it.

We could do a CRV (Co Razy View - or a review by multiple people). I could ink up a pen with the original Private Reserve DCSSB and another pen with the Monteverde DC Super Show Blue  and send you a letter with writing from both inks and you can write back with the new PR DCSSB.

In an extremely unscientific test of original PRDCSSB and new PRDCSSB received from Goulet Pens this week they are nearly identical, and within the range of difference that could be accounted for by the age of the original bottle.

I’d be up for that!

Spearmint Green is my favorite green all-time. They had better not mess with the hue and character!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
