Cherry

Recommended Posts

Seeking some recommendations for a cherry ink. I bought Kwz cherry a good while ago. Nice ink, but too red and too light. Private Reserve Black Cherry was a great colour but a terrible problem ink in terms of behaviour. FC black cheryy was a bit too dark and pretty dry too. I've been eyeing Krishna Cherry but there don't seem to be any reviews of it. Anyone know of any, or have any further suggestions?

I found the Krishna Wild Cherry a lot lighter than the PR Black Cherry. I think one of the 'winey' colours might be closer - perhaps Diamine Merlot or Syrah or even Oxblood (depending on the variety of cherry you're thinking of) are all very reliable. Noodlers Black Swan in Australian Roses if you can cope with its dryness, or if you don't mind a more expensive ink, the Montblanc Antoine de Saint-Exupery is lovely.

Otherwise, there's always the De Atramentis Cherry (complete with scent).

There are a couple of Herbin inks that might work as well, but I need to look in that drawer to find them.

What do you mean by cherry ink? If it's the fruit, do you mean dark cherry, red sour cherries or the Rainer type cherry?

Or do you mean cherry blooms?

I found this image of Krishna Cherry on the net...That doesn't remind me of cherries though ;)

I found it even lighter than that - more cherry blossom than cherry, but too bright to be blossom. I didn't buy any more, though I love some of their other colours.

Thanks for letting me know. Not the colour I like that much. I've got a bottle of Noodler's Ottoman's Rose, which is in the more brighter colour, ugh...

Thanks for finding the Krishna cherry pic. That is dramatically different from the picture they show, but I'd experience of that with other inks from them which was why I wanted to find another picture source.

When i say cherry I'm thinking of black cherries so a very dark red leaning to a very dark purple or at least a deep rich red that isn't pink. Something similar to FC black cherry or the Private Reserve one but without the poor behavioural aspects.

The new Diamine "reddit" ink is supposed to be released in January and might fit the bill for you --- it's name is Writer's Blood, but the project name was Black Cherry prior to the other name being voted in:

I never did manage to get the Cashmeres - despite wanting them quite  a lot!

This closer to home. Though it looks like he's closed for Xmas. Check after the holidays.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Thank you all. I have the Red Cashmere and like it (but not the smell). After I've written a page I get that woosey feeling as if I've painted a whole fence with creasote.

The Diamine actually looks spot on. I'll look forward to it's release and grab a bottle.

Yes, and the proprietor is brazen enough to label one of his website categories “Rabbit Hole.”  I wonder if his name might be Leland Gaunt (Needful Things?

Also have a look at Platinum Cassis-Black. It is a clear red to begin with and then dries to a deep red-black that reminds me of our local cherries (Cherry season here now. Yum!).

I did think of another one - perhaps not as black as the new Diamine, but how about Organics Studio's Edgar Allan Poe? Or is that too wine, rather than cherry?

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought a bottle of Sour Cherry ink by Pennonia Ink from Shigure Inks (www.pennonia.eu, from Hungary).  It’s a nice darker red ink, not quite as dark as Red Cashmere, and not much smell.  It hasn’t been dry in the Lamy Safari medium that I’ve tried it in, with little to no feathering/ghosting on inexpensive paper.  The ink is inexpensive ($12.50 US for 50ml), comes in a wide bottle with a large mouth.  You may be able to source it in Europe since it is from Hungary.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
