What planner/diary are you using for 2021?

I have been Bullet Journaling since 2019, and my current notebook still has probably 3 months' of space left.

I have considered something different, though. I might try the Field Notes "56 Week Planner".

I really like the layout of the Moleskine weekly diary notebook. Diary on the left and a notebook page on the right. Excellent format, but I need better paper.

What's got you thinking about something different?

MIDORI notebooks. I like the plain ones where you can decide what ever you want to do with it. Love their paper quality as well.

I'm using the same hand made a5 bullet journalish system for 2021 but in different housing: Lochby Field and Pocket journals. They are replacing a Muji zippered pouch after many trials with other journal/pouch systems: X17 SuperBuch, Traveler's, Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter, Nock, Lihit Labs and many other variants.

I found my needs are simple in level of portability when out and about:

  • Always (ultralight weight): a few folded US letters (packets) clipped to a pen, 1 packet has a full month indexed vertically just like a bullet journal calendar'other side is datestamped notes. Sometimes I letterlock them for fun and practice 😊
  • Almost always: Lochby Pocket journal (lighter weight): same as above but with more packets
  • If i have a bag/pack: Lochby Field Journal (regular weight): my a5/cut down US letter journal and more packets and pen carry with a Rickshaw Bags Pen roll

All completed packets go archived in colored transparent plastic envelopes in a very general tickler system: Noguchi Filing

On the digital side, I maintain wikis: TiddlyWiki and VimWiki which replaced org-mode in evil mode years ago

I figure I can read all these memories when retired; until then write on!

The best solution for me are a large desk calendar to note current daily events, and the phone for urgent tasks.

I won't be using a planner.  For a diary, I only have a few pages left in my Nanami Seven Seas A5 journal with unlined Tomoe River paper.  I have some more of those journals for a refill, but I was looking through my stock of blank notebooks, and think I'll start the new year (a bit early) with something else, a Clairefontaine notebook with unlined 21.0 x 29.7 cm pages, a little larger than US letter size.  I used to keep my journals in notebooks this size, and had mixed feelings about switching to A5 instead, although I do have a nice leather cover for the A5 ones.

For a travel diary, I often have used a Clairefontaine 11x17 cm. notebook with lined paper, but don't know when I'll travel again.  I've been using the current one to record some routine daily things that I don't want to put in my regular diary.

Sadly, most of us don't know when we will be able to travel again.

I don't know how readily available it is in other parts of the world but this time last year I bought the 2020 Inamio 24 diary (A5) and it's excellent.  It's described as "Japanese style" and seems to mimic Hobonichi fairly closely in format and layout.  The paper is pale cream and fountain pen friendly (as I've more recently discovered), there's a soft-feel hard cover, it's only a fraction of the price of a Techo Cousin here in the UK, and best of all it's all in English.  I've got something else arriving tomorrow but if it's not as good I'll be buying this one again for next year.

It is rare that I get the treat of learning of a new filing system, but this is great! Thank you for sharing it!

I use the Daytimer page per day, Compact size. It comes in a set of six notebooks per year. I have a refillable leather wallet I carry them in. The left of each page is for appointments, the right side for notes, and the bottom third is for todos. Monthly calendars in the back.   The last couple of years the paper has handled FP ink fairly well. (Before it might as well of been a paper towel it feathered so badly.) Still, I generally use pencil.

I can understand. As much as I like fountain pens, I usualy have a pencil with me. It won't dry out as FPs and ballpoints do.

Since you like the week on one page format with thicker paper, have the Rhodia Web planners appealed to you at all?

Thanks! I’ll look into it for next year. I don’t find the 8a-7p format of each day useful, but they could be repurposed as a to-do list...

I'll be using the same Filofax personal size planner that I've used since 1989.  It's served me well.

Hobonichi Techo Planner (the A6 size).  I've been using them since 2018 and they work really well for my needs - enough to justify the cost.
