How good is ExcelPro copier paper?

HartGummi

Recommended Posts

So far I have tried JK Excel Bond which is a heavy paper, but it is extremely absorbent. I have used several bright inks but they all produced dull shades.

I had seen good things written about JK Cedar, but some people recommended Excel Pro over it so I backed off from ordering the former. Excel Pro is supposedly less absorbent than even JK Cedar.

Please share your experience with this paper if you have previously used it.

I have not used this paper yet. However, I have great experience with TNPL Platinum 80GSM paper. It works well with all types of inks and pen running dry or wet.

If you want to use the paper for your daily writing, then 80 GSM is more than enough. In my opinion, it is good for archival purpose as well.

How would you rate TNPL Platinum 80GSM paper? Is it better or worse than JK Cedar?

I use jk cedar for all my daily writing (my paakezah review has pics on jk cedar for reference, no laptop with me right so so can't post any pics on that paper), works great and does not bleed or feather on any inks I own, even ghosting is hard to see in most inks. The paper itself is smooth and for me its better then 75gsm spectra copy papers or nightingale papers. Its heavy paper as well and is heavier then jk excel from my feel, been a while since I used Excel. As for absorbent, well it is quite less absorbent then jk excel, 75gsm copy paper or nightingale papers. Sheen in paakezah was quite easily visible so absorbent is low.

No idea of Excel pro, never used it so can't exactly say much same for TNPL platinum, but both should be quite good.

Happy hunting.

I have used JK Cedar 100GSM on few occasions. However, I prefer TNPL Platinum to JK Cedar even if it is 80 GSM.

There are other high grade papers available in TNPL. But those do not come in RIM or A4 sheets. you can get those in rolls . These are not easily available anywhere other than Parrys(chennai).

GSM is just a weight criteria for paper 'gram per square metre' and tells nothing about the paper itself (just look at tomoe river papers) which is why discussion like these make sense.

I will give TNPL platinum a try once my excess of 1000 sheets of jk are done (about 6 months or so). Not being in A4 is a bummer for me but will see what I can do when buying it.

By high grade do you mean better than TNPL Platinum? If so then please name a few.

you can get details of current offerings on TNPL website. Only Copier paper comes into A4 sheets as far as I know.

Update:

Finally opened the ream of Excel Pro 100 GSM. I am very happy with its performance.

No feathering, no bleed through, the inks show their colours.

By far the best paper I have bought in bulk. A great bargain compared to other FP papers.

Can the paper be acquired in the U.S. or outside without a steep shipping cost? Thanks.

This paper brand is not Indian at all. IIRC it is Malaysian.

It may even be easier to procure in the US than India. Costs roughly $ 5.5 for 500 sheets.

I found it on Amazon.in by chance.

Thanks much, I checked those places. Lazada doesn't ship to the U.S. and amazon.in says currently nis and unknown when.

You could try a wholesale paper dealer or local stationery shops. I have been trying the same because the paper is often missing on Amazon.

I have been looking for other inkjet printer papers. If you had any luck with them don't forget to mention a few names.

Quote: In the US I'm sure you can get paper made by Xerox, HP or Hammermill at 90 or 100gsm that will be very good for writing with FP's.

Sounds good. hp Paper Printer | 8.5 x 11 Paper | Premium 32 lb | 1 Ream - 500 Sheets | 100 Bright | Made in USA - FSC Certified | 113100R.

This us supposedly 120 GSM. Any opinion? Thanks.

Hey if you don't mind me asking. Have you tried JK cedar or TNPL platinum 80 gsm? If so, how does Excel pro fares with those? I am currently using jk cedar, the page on both side have different finish, one side being smoother than another. Is this the case of excel pro too? Any insight will be helpful

Excel Pro is better than both JK Cedar and TNPL Platinum. Both its sides are smooth and well-behaved.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
