Writing Sample For Heritage Mbs--Obb, Bb, Ob, And Om?

Hi all,

Is there anyone with with an MB Heritage pen with an obb/bb/ob or om nib who might be willing to share their experience of the nib, and perhaps even a writing sample? My understanding is that the Heritage nibs (on 1912, Rouge et Noir, Egyptomania etc) are slightly softer than other MB nibs.

I have a Montblanc Heritage Rouge et Noir Coral Serpent (such a mouthful!) fountain pen on its way to me in a medium, and I am planning to send it straight to MB for a nib exchange.

I am especially curious to know how a Heritage OBB might compare with a 149 OBB.

I have a 149 with an OBB nib and love it dearly, but am also still adjusting to it. I'm not new to obliques, but the learning curve with this one surprised me a bit.

It's so much fun to write with, but I was surprised how difficult it can be to write a consistent line with it. Even just a slight movement or rotation can radically change the line from fat horizontal/thin vertical to thin horizontal/fat vertical to fat/fat. A little rotation can also lead to skipping. So I am not yet really able to use it for long writing sessions. The nib itself (tipping) seems to be shaped differently than any of my other obliques--it's very square and fat. Beautiful! My other OBBs and OBs are either much blobbier/rounder (the factory ones especially) or much thinner.

Is the Heritage OBB as demanding as the 149 with regards to its sweet spot?

If so, would it make sense to go for a BB instead? (Or perhaps the OB or OM?)

I can't yet use my 149 OBB as a regular writer (for taking notes etc), but was hoping to use the Heritage Rouge et Noir for taking research notes, etc.

Many thanks for any insights you might be able to share!

I would expect a modern MB oblique to write like a modern MB oblique no matter what pen it may be attached to.

I must say im not fond of MBs obliques from the past few decades. The ones from the sixties and earlier are more pleasant to use and give more line variation.

Im using a RetN with OB nib. I like it; it is stubbish and not too broad. I have not used any other MB so I can not compare. A writing sample is attached, compared to a Visconti Calligraphy (steel) sample, which is the other pen I have inked now. Hope it helps.

I don't know if this is helpful but I did receive my Egyptomania OBB yesterday. Sadly the pen still has issues and I will be sending it out to Mark Bacas to fix. I've included other Montblanc obliques I have for comparison.

The first sample for the Heritage is Montblanc Royal Blue, the second is Sailor Seiboku.

Wow, thank you both, Violet-Ink and GOTO10! This is so helpful... I appreciate you taking the time to share!

It's confirmed then, an obb it shall be!

Sadly, the rouge et noir arrived, but one of the serpent's eyes had popped out, so I had to return it. Talked with the store and will exchange it for an Egyptomania doue. I love the look of the rouge but think I need the doue to keep my black Egyptomania company. I love the heritage series!

And Violet-Ink, your script style (that ad ligature!) is fantastic, what a perfect match to the OB!
