Lamy Al-Star Heidelberg Kollektion

Obviously they are trying to sell those as "special editions". It's just a black AL-Star with tampon print. As a collector I pass even if it is sold by Lamy themselves.

What do you think?

It is a souvenir logo for a ~2EUR upcharge. In the realm of souvenir products, there are much worse examples. This item is at least functional, and the logos look modest enough. If you like Heidelberg, seems reasonable to me.

I am betting whoever came up with these didnt have collectors in mind (certainly not as a primary target).

I would gladly buy one, if only I could get to Heidelberg to go the Lamy shop (on my bucket list). Given where things are at with this pandemic, I can't see that happening for years.

The shop in San Francisco had a similar imprint last time I was there. White Safari ballpoint.

Of course I bought it.

And I like it muchly.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

When I was touring Germany last year (seems like decades ago!) I checked out every pen shop I found. I would've bitten had I seen this pen or any other city I visited stamped pen.

I believe the pens may also be available on-line for delivery. Check the link in the OP.

If I made the trip to Heidelberg, I'd probably pick one up as a souvenir, but I don't feel like I need one in my collection for completeness.

+1

I've bought worse things as souvenirs over the years. I'd be less likely to buy this if it ONLY came in black. If it came in other colors though? Maybe. And yes, I'd use it.... After all -- I use a Sheaffer Snorkel that still has the nib size sticker on the section.

Just like I use the coffee mug I bought in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame the time we went (it lists that year's inductees) -- I just used it yesterday, in fact because it's quite large compared to some of the other mugs we have. I also bought a really silly vinyl tote bag which has a sort of crazy 1960s design in lots of bright colors. Makes a great bag to carry CDs in on long car trips.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought one of their Noto ballpoints with the Heidelberg imprint a few years ago from the Lamy shop. It is an inexpensive, nice pen that reminds us of the time we spent in the city, so it is a good souvenir of what was a happy holiday.

if i made the trip to heidelberg, i'd skip the lamy shop (except for looking into the window).

but then, i'm one of those stingy germ(an)s who tend not to buy souvenirs anyway. heidelberg's old city being only a 20 minute bicycle ride away, might be another factor.

:D

seriously - a nice souvenir shop specializing on kaweco pens is located in Untere Straße, not far from Café Knösel.

(Knösel of "Heidelberger Studentenkuß" fame)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
