I thought you were doing Kiri-same? Thanks all the same. ;)

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Kiri-same will come next Tuesday. My profile feed is a preview - what I have inked or am about to record, not what I publish. I keep a "supply" of 2-3 already-recorded reviews in case something happens to prevent me from recording, the schedule can be maintained. So reviews 40 and 41 are ready to go. Ink 42 is in the pen and will be recorded tomorrow night. :)

Thanks for this review and especially your mention of its easy cleanability. I, too, found that out long go and one more reason why I really cherish this ink (the other reason simply being its looks). Sorta synergistic... it's always easy to wash out snow on a cold, dark day.... :)

You're welcome! I was very surprised - years ago - to discover how much I like grey ink! :) This one looks really nice in my London Fog - with the added benefit of easily coming out of a not-as-easy-to-clean pen.

Shouldn't it be grey fur fox ;)

Great review, Liz!.

Unlike others, I'm not a fan of greys. I tried one, once, and it cured for me life :D

Another of 'my' inks—-I love this for its blue tint and shading. Thanks!

Yep, it's that blue tinge that does it for me too. :) You're welcome!

This is my favorite gray ink ever!

And mine so far - I have a few more greys I haven't tried (some of which I have samples for, some not), but so far this is my favorite. :)

Actually, at least some foxes (the one in our story, for example) have both hair and fur. Further, apparently fur is made up of hair. (Not that I knew this when I wrote that, but let's pretend I did. )

Thank you!

We won't hold your anti-grey sentiment against you. But how do you feel about gray ink? :P

I kinda like the color of Fuyu-Syogen, but I found it a bit too light to be really legible. And that was with a something wider than an EF....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Tas told me the same. I guess it varies by person - color certainly does. And yes, it is quite pale - at the limit, I'd say, of readable.

Yey... grey inks! Thanks for showing this one. Fuyu-Syogun is one of the great ones. Looking forward to more grey ink reviews.

:D Next Tuesday I'll publish my Kiri-same review. So far, the other greys aren't scoring so high, but we'll get to them eventually. And I have more in my various wish lists - at least one of which will be purchased when JetPens gets 2021 Hobonichis in.

What about a compromise, a foxy flaky fox, fumbled on a flask of Fuyu-Syogun, feeling grey, groaning gallantly, I'm garishly Gray.... Mr. Dog.... ;)

I love both of the standard Iroshizuku grays and have 50ml bottles of each. Fuyu-Syogun used to be my favorite, but now Kiri-Same tops the scale. Both have great water resistance and look so pretty. I'd love the LE gray too, tealy-green tinted.

Uh oh, more greys for the wish list.

 If you're like me, you'll never need to buy bottled ink again because the continual flow of new samples will keep you inked for three lifetimes! :P

I wished I'd seen your review before getting Kiri-Same, which is way too light a grey for me to use. Even in broad nibs and on TR paper. Looking forward to what you have to say about it next week. Great review!

Thanks! Hopefully the Kiri-same review will be helpful. FWIW, I find Fuyu-syogun easier to read than Kiri-same. I don't know that it's necessarily darker, but it is easier to read - for me.

  • 1 year later...

I apologize for bumping and old thread.
i used to find greys immensely uninteresting.  Until I tried sailor 123. Its great in juicy nibs but even in my xf, i can see a bit of that special hue…. Is old man winter ink a similar one to use.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
