I just have the one Duragraph currently, but my shopping list is loaded up.

Duragraph F Purple Nights. It's packed away in a box. Haven't gotten to it yet after my relocation.

Colorverse delicious Sleep.  The good folks at Lemur Ink had it on sale and the label was irresistible to a guy who shares his home with nine rescued feral kitties.  The color is nice, a not too saturated purple.  I will probably try it in a vintage Remington combo I just finished working on.

I hang my head in shame.  After years of mocking a certain color of ink on this forum, I put in an order just now for several new inks by Diamine and one was a bottle of that unmentionable color.  (say it ain't so, Joe)

  • Ostrich ‘2022 PANTONE Colour of the Year’ Very Peri ink, which is marketed as being waterproof
  • two Ostrich scented inks — 901 Green (mint) and 903 Blue-Black (teak), both of which appear to exhibit sheen in the manufacturer's marketing images/swatches
  • eight Ostrich sheen inks — Red Ruby, Green Emerald, Purple Amethyst, Blue Moon Lake, Lake Baikal, Aegean Sea, Glen Sea, Okinawa Sea (four 18ml bottles of each)

While on a recent trip to Washington DC, a quick google search revealed a cute little stationery store within walking distance of my air b&b. After looking at swatches of Tom's Studio inks (unfortunately nothing too different from what I've already got) and Ferris Wheel Press (kinda expensive and often a touch too fancy and shimmery for my tastes), I found a bottle of J Herbin Vert de Gris that was calling my name.

It's quite different from what I've got in my collection and I like the grey/blue color a great deal. I don't see much green in it at all (maybe on different paper?) but it shades nicely with a 1.1mm nib and I've been using it a good deal this past week. It's definitely not something that screams on the page, but it has a quiet dignity and uniqueness about it that appeals to me. A total impulse buy that worked out well.

Hmm, these look quite intriguing indeed. Any other way beside Aliexpress to get them?

I ordered them on Taobao, not AliExpress.

Just can't do it. I can't bring myself to get my version of that color. Not even saying the name.

I must be tired. I saw "Ostrich scented" and thought "oooh, I wonder what ostriches smell like?"

I ordered more Ostrich inks this morning: the red and the black inks in the line of scented inks shown above, and a set of twelve (18ml bottles of) supposedly waterproof pigment inks:

O1CN014D3lBY1CLM6psCR6x_!!2410040064.jpg

(The footnote reads: Tang Yi is white, and would be visible against black or dark paper.)

I was very tempted by a relatively expensive (compared to, say, Ostrich's ‘regular’ number 313) blue-black iron-gall ink called 青龙, while I could get it with stacked discounts, and it alone out of that line of iron-gall inks:

O1CN016DPWLz1CLMLX3BIGQ_!!2410040064.png

had a limited/reasonable marginal contribution to the gross weight for the purposes of calculating shipping charges (while it is obviously exaggerated for the other three colours). Ultimately, though, I pulled it from my shopping cart at the last minute and couldn't go through with it, not when the one 60ml bottle is priced higher than the set of eight 18ml bottles of ultra-sheeny inks, and then also excluded from some other discount offers.

I would have been happy to pick up a bottle of the number 313 blue-black iron-gall ink, but it brings double-whammy marginal shipping charges — one lot for domestic shipping within China (to Taobao's shipment consolidation facility), and one for international shipping (by slow boat) to Australia — adding approximately 300% of the bottle's before-discount retail price to the effective cost of acquisition, or 440% after factoring discounts on the item price. No can do.

Whoops. A fool and his money are soon parted. An additional discount, and shipping charges considerations, that reduced the effective marginal cost to below AUD $10 — which is still $10 more than I need to spend — got me over the line with a bottle of Ostrich 青龙 (Azure Dragon) iron-gall ink. I had to be getting a set of these Ostrich ‘Morandi City Series’ pigment inks for that (marginal shipping charge, and also 10% selected-items-only discount triggered) to apply, of course:

O1CN01fB7hZo1CLM7Ucd1Wm_!!2410040064.jpg(@AmandaW, the grey with the pink undertone is named Perth.)

Ordering the set comprising two dozen 18ml bottles on its own, without triggering the 10% discount, would cost me a hair more than ordering it together with the bottle of iron-gall ink.

I love them and hate them. They keep delivering temptation directly to my inbox--dangerous. They have intriguing colors--dangerous. And then I want to get one only to find out it's gone--sadness. (Still mourning missing out on Fighting Fish.)

Doesn't stop me buying them, though.

Oh Cult Pens, you temptress. I just wanted some converters. Instead I have Colorverse Red Shift, R&K SketchINK Lilly and some Herbins coming. And the converters. The Herbins are sort-of replacements for the tiny 10ml bottles, the others are fresh impulse purchases (i've sampled them). At least I stayed out of the notebook section.

Does it count as an impulsive purchase if the purchase is based on MANY online swatches, reviews and research rather than trying a sample of one’s own?

Should I ask want that colour is? Feel free to use euphemism or metaphor…
