As always I am amazed by your talent Fpupulin.  Your writing and mastery of the MB calligraphy pen are an inspiration to me.  Thanks for sharing!  I spend a little too much time watching calligraphic artists on YouTube and suspect it would be a joy to watch you at this craft.

Cheers,

N

@nm4, I'm not a big fan of calligraphy videos. There are too many of them, and the authors are too good... so much so that I get a little discouraged.

I have no idea how to make a video of my handwriting, but from the little I've seen online, I can tell you that I write much more slowly than the great calligraphers on the internet.

My strokes are more measured than truly gestural, and the nib follows a "virtual" path I have in my head (and which I often sketch out on a few test sheets) rather than improvising free curves, as the best calligraphers know how.

My handwriting is truly artisanal...

I agree that many of those videos make the process look so easy...but I still admire the art.  My goal is to become 5% as talented as you some day!  May have to wait til I get to retirement. :)

Sundays are for resting and playing. Today I played with the shallow depth of field and bokeh of a couple of Nikon lenses on my medium format sensor.

This is just half a sheet of the largest leaf of Magnani 1404 Velata Sketch, 35x45 cm (14"x18"), spiral-bound pad of 80 sheets, 90 gm2 (60 lb).

I have to admit, I'm crazy about this paper!

I paid the equivalent of $20 for this pad in Costa Rica. 25 cents per sheet, 12.5 cents for a half sheet, and if I cut the sheet into quarters, it costs me just over 6 cents. Honestly, I don't think I've ever found such good fountain pen paper for such a ridiculous price.

I read specs of this paper online, quite impressive at that price.

Prices are similar in Europe.

Thanks for the info ( and for the info on the Style of Zug 149).

Glad that the informations have ben useful @Opooh!

This is the kind of paper that, fortunately, is not "buttery smooth", as I do not like the sensation of the nib that slips on the paper. The Velata, instead, forces the nib to feel a bit of resistance, which is exactly what I like in the "lovers' quarrel" between nib and paper.

By the way, your Style of Zug 149 is gorgeous. Compliments!

@fpupulin I am trying to improve my handwriting, but I have some problems with the printed templates. I find the printed lines interfere with the judging of the results. On the other hand making the templates with a pencil and erase them afterwards is to time consuming. Are lightboxes an option?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
