Removing Ink Stain From Gold Plated Pen

I have a Parker Classic Milleraies with some minor black ink stains on the cap and barrel. Does anyone have any tips to remove them?

If it's regular fountain-pen ink, try a damp cloth followed by a light rub with a jewelry cloth.

I would try cleaning it with cotton wool (in order to get between the lines of the pattern without damaging them).

I would start with cotton wool dipped in warm water.

If that doesn’t work, I would escalate as follows:

Soak in warm water with dish detergent - then follow up with cotton wool dipped in it;

Soak in warm water with biological laundry detergent (it contains digestive enzymes), then follow up with cotton wool dipped in it;

Cotton wool dipped in ‘surgical spirit’/isopropyl alcohol;

Soak in ammonia solution then follow up with cotton wool dipped in it;

I would use the jewellery cloth to polish your pen once you have managed to get the black stains off the pen.

good advise above

if the ink stain is fountain pen ink water based washing should clean it

if however the stain is ballpoint ink, it's more likely that the alcohol solution will clean it

if you want to go lightly dilute the alcohol (meths is ok) 50-50 with water.

If that does not work (but should) use pure alcohol

then wash with water anyway

I had to lok this up - it doesn't exist in the Netherland but Amazon delivers. Will try detergent first before ordering from Amazon...

I figured that if it works for my own skin on my fingers, & it does clean stains off very well, it might also work for your vintage pen.

I got my bottle from nibs.com (no affiliation) in the USA.

Of course, you may want to test it on a similar surface first.

Rapido-eze is another option. Safe, effective, but not inexpensive.
