Muji Replacement Feed?

Sted

Recommended Posts

Anyone know where to source a replacement feed for the Muji? Mine vanished but I nabbed this picture from the interwebs in case it looks familiar to anyone.

I've fired off an email to the Muji store but haven't heard back yet (and am not holding out much hope tbh).

I agree with you, there is the slimmest chance that Muji will hold spare parts for your pen. I also cannot think of any seller of pen parts that may be able to sell a new feed.

It would have helped if you still had the feed to measure the length and width of the feed so that someone on here may have a look in their parts box and see if they have something that may work.

I am curious to know how a feed vanishes!

Bearing in mind the cost of the pen it may be that the only alternative is to buy a new replacement, possibly selling the bits you have to offset the cost.

I've read that the pen uses a JoWo #5 nib unit.

I also lost a Muji feed recently! How? Easily distracted owner? I'd also like to know how to get it, preferably through easy to shop online stores...

Maybe try Beaufort Inks, the Bock #5 type 180 unit lists Muji as one of the pen types it fits. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer, ymmv etc.

I just checked and it is a schmidt feed.

can't promise a bock feed will fit, but I've no reason to think it shouldn't.

But replacing the feed is likely no cheaper than buying another muji. And that way you'd have spare parts.

I tried, on a hunch, the moonman m2 feed, which looks very close, but it's too narrow.

Yeah, it seems that way. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I learned a lot following your leads.

I've already ordered a new pen, but I'll update the thread if BIG MUJI get back to me on the spares query.

Hot tip for anyone struggling to unscrew and remove the nib unit housing in the Muji.

You may or may not know that it's glued in there (for reasons best left to Muji) and I've read that by just gripping the chrome collar you can break the glue and unscrew the housing. Well it didn't work for me, there's a LOT of glue to fight against.

So I grabbed a 5mm Allen key, pushed it into the housing and easily torqued through the glue barrier - and from there it unscrewed easily.

If this is a well-known tactic against recalcitrant nib-unit housings amongst the niberati then sorry for the repetition but I thought I'd share.

why did you try to remove the housing? I tried to unscrew it once or twice but it was clearly way too strongly bonded in there.

If you really want it out, heat it for several minutes with a hair dryer on high. You should be able to soften most glues. If that doesn't work, you're never going to get the housing out.

It is just a cheapie pen in the end. I absolutely adore my delike alpha brass, but rather than worry about keeping it for decades to come, I just bought 3 spares. Still came up cheaper than the kaweco brass.

Looks like a Schmidt n.5 unit. Should be interchangeable with JoWo or Bock, same size

This reply is horrendously late but for those looking for a replacement nib and unit in B or perhaps M with the nice silver collar like i was, I think it may be the Schmidt FH231 :)

Of course that model specificity doesn't affect the feed that's in it only the housing.

Sted, did you end up repairing your pen?

Hi,

I would like to change my Muji nib to a 1.1 stub.

Should I buy a size 5 nib and just replace the nib
Or is it better to change the whole housing including nib and feed?

Also, would be grateful if you could let me know where to buy.

Thanks.

Probably not, in view of:

Schmidt doesn't make a 1.1 Stub nib, as far as I'm aware.

Bock and JoWo both make 1.1 Stub nibs of size “#5”, but I certainly can't tell you whether they will fit inside the Schmidt housing neatly and around the Schmidt feed properly as made. Furthermore, I don't know how or from where you can just buy the nib, without the (Bock and JoWo) feed and housing as part and parcel of the item, as a retail customer.

You can order the Bock and JoWo nib units from FPnibs, for one.

I can confirm that that Schmidt FH231 nib unit is the direct replacement. I have a B in it and it fits perfectly.

One at the bottom is the original nib unit that broke while being removed.
