At least in Japan...

About $104 US shipped off Rakuten:

I'll wait until they're available in the US, or at least start to show on Ebay with affordable shipping prices.

Yeah - $32 is a bit steep to ship a pen.

The Rakuten page says the Curidas is 24 grams so the weight is okay assuming it's suitably biased towards the nib end. (I don't like heavy pens). I'm not so sure about the 13.8 mm barrel diameter. There's no real taper where you'd grip so it might feel a bit awkwardly chubby in the hand (it looks that way in the pictures).

I am gobsmacked to report that CultPens has them on their website for £95! That’s a shockingly high price. I wondered whether Platinum had a European v. US pricing structure, like Pilot do, but on checking EU sellers, most have theirs priced at €75.

I have noticed that many CultPens prices have been creeping up since their takeover by W H Smith. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not........

Looked a bit chubby for me, too.

I was psyched to see this one originally, but even at $60 I'm probably going to pass on it since the form factor doesn't really fit my preference (rather stout).

It seems that Platinum put their foot down and dealers are no longer able to sell it at a discount and everybody has changed their price to $80. Which for me has taken it from worth giving a try to a pass. Unless reviews come out that are glowing. The hump under for the door latch just looks like it would bother me and I'm not paying $80 to find out.

I'm interested in the pen, but with this bit of news, and the (faint?) rumor of a gold nib version at some point, I'd rather wait.

$80 for:

-transparent, steel-nibbed click pen that looks like a Bic multi-pen without a converter (and said converter is proprietary).

No thanks.

Curidas were displayed at the LA Pen Show. They did not have the clear transparent model - said it was on order. Did not write with it. Didn't bother as was turned off by appearance. Ugly. Plunger was huge - much bigger than necessary. Diameter seemed bigger than a Capless - was bothersome to use. I don't like and don't use Capless so not appropriate for me to compare girth. Plastic looked cheap and felt cheap. At current price point it could be an everyday user. However, too much competition.

My take is Platinum is trying to secure a foothold in the lower end of the Capless market. Might be successful. My guess is probably not. This is a big gamble for them as it takes some Yen to launch a new line of pens. Having a gold nib will not change my mind. They should revisit the design and choice of barrel materials. If plastic is all they can have for the price point, go with black, blue, yellow, etc.

I will be honest, this is the most ugliest Platinum pen I had ever seen. Hard pass for me.

If you win over your own stupidity then are you winner or loser? In any case it means something good.

I picked one up for my wife because she wanted something like this and it was the best among the options. I wasn't sure what to think, but I was so impressed I ended up getting a host of other Platinum pens to boot. It is unconventional, but it feels really good in the hand, and it writes very well.
