Buying Used Mont Blanc Pen Tips

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I am looking at expanding my collection but obviously will have to be used pens due to my restricted budget. Any tips what to look out for would be fantastic so I dont get buying fakes. I have a lot to learn and any info would be greatly appreciated. Most of my collection will most likely be rollerball or ballpoint as there are an easier grab and go pen for me. Cheers guys :)

Watch the classifieds here for sure. Most of those will be fountain pens, but you should find the occasional ballpoint/rollerball there. There are usually a large number of MBs on classifieds, and they will nearly always (if not always) be real :)

You could also find something you like and ask about it on FPN to ask if it is real.

Good luck finding the right pen!

Good advice. Find something you like and post it up here on the forum. The experts will soon tell you if it's genuine.

And you'll need this if you're concentrating on rollerballs and ballpoints - as the pens are basically holders for refills (mostly cosmetic, rather than any engineering, such as filling system etc) - which means the counterfeiters can have a field day with their fakery.

Enjoy the search - and good luck.

Do a google search on how to spot a fake mb. You'll have plenty to read. An easy tip is to google the serial number. If you get a hit it that is not the pen for sale you have a fake. The just use one serial number for a run of forgeries.

Montblanc's Magic is in their nib... and their masterstroke is packaging that nib in a comfortable body.

IMHO a non-FP Montblanc is like driving a Porsche 912... hey it's still a car & it still looks just like a 911, just with a 4-cyl not the iconic flat-6 - where the Stuttgart magic happens.

Whereas others build replicars that look like a Porsche but they install a genuine Porsche engine.

Might as well just wait until somebody gifts you that lookalike, then put a proper refill in...! :P

The Fountain Pen Network Classifieds are a reliable source of pre-owned Montblanc pens.

There are often rollerballs or ballpoints offered by FPN members.

I hope that you'll find a pen or two which satisfy your preferences.

Thank you for all your tips I will take on board all the advice and post here on any findings before laying down any money. I did browse the classifieds but I am in the UK and a majority if not all seem to be in in the USA which I'm not sure how VAT and everything would work out.

Thanks guys :)

You will have to pay 20% VAT when the pen arrives in the UK plus a handling fee, so it can work out quite expensive. I have had to pay £100 or so a couple of times which hurts.

I think the Montblanc S-Line and 32(X) models offer a tremendous value for money, These were made in enormous quantities so there are always a lot for sale at any given moment. I would steer away from gold plated nibs however.

Buy within the EU and you won't have to

Add lightness and simplicate.
