When Will Conid Bring Back The Caiso System?

BDarchitect

Recommended Posts

I contacted Conid back in April '19 to ask when they expected to reintroduce the CAISO system to their Kingsize pens, and Jonas wrote back to say it is definitely coming back but gave no date, it's awaiting improved engineering....

Does anyone have any updated info on when this feature will be returning? And if you have a pen with it installed, is it worth waiting for?

I've seen various estimates from Conid but those dates have come and gone. I've been waiting for the pen since it was first announced (2017?). I like to wait a couple months to make sure the kinks are worked out from new tech and those few months are turning into a few years. Fortunately I have plenty of other pens to play with.

I have ordered mine in april 2017 and had it delivered in june 2017. It has been in rotation permanently .

I like the concept and the technical aspect and I'm sure it is definitely worth waiting for. The waiting will get you something rather special...

  • 4 weeks later...

I just received an email response to my inquiry at Conid about the return of CAISO, and, with many apologies for the late response due to overwhelming email volume, was told that CAISO has been put on hold with no established return to production date. It would appear that their first challenge is upsizing their operation to meet current demand, and from the message chatter on these fora it is clear there is a lot of frustration in the pen community with that.

A CAISO is one of the few pens I still plan on buying and I just bought another pen so a little longer delay from Conid is okay with me.

I had two Caisos. Stupidly, I sold one because I intended to get the new edition. Looks like that may not be possible now.

Oh well, I still have the second pen. That was a thank you gift from Conid (what they call a "Masterpiece" item) because of some testing I did. I am very attached to that Caiso.

Is it worth waiting for? In my opinion, the Caiso does not function any better than a Kingsize - unless you are into aerobatics. Because of the tricky bits, it is certainly more finicky. That may be why it was withdrawn. Given that all the Conids are good performers and come from a company that deserves our respect, why wait?. Unless, of course, you like techy things and rare pens.

If you don't mind my asking, what was the time lag between asking the question and getting the response?

I asked them Sept 28 and got my response Nov 6.

I just received newsletter from Conid regarding their bulkfiller production today. They are putting a hold on any new orders until May 2020 to alleviate their backlog.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
