Leuchtturm1917 Master. Very Happy!

So I had been looking around for notebooks for some time now. I am a prolific note-taker so having one with me when travelling for business or to work, or just at home on my desk, really is something I've grown accustomed to. I bought several offerings by other companies, which are still great, but I couldn't help but long for the 1917. The price was significantly higher than the others, but now it has arrived I can honestly say it's a bargain. More pages than I'll likely fill in a couple of years and the paper quality is exceptional.

I'm now looking for a leather cover for it but have so far been unsuccessful. If anyone has any recommendations, I'm all ears!

Also looking for a leather cover for Notebooks so hoping someone has some ideas Mike.

The only problem I have had with this brand is bleedthrough and showthrough, not too bad with a fine and dryish nib but horrible witha wet broad nib, especially if you want to write on both sides of the page. No issue on ballpoints or pencil.

Have they improved the paper perhaps?

I definitely noticed some show through, but I can't say I've experienced any bleed through. I am using an EF nib, though. I can imagine a broad would not fare as well. The paper feels a beautiful quality, but I'd imagine a more 'finished' surface would be needed to facilitate any broader or wetter nibs.

The quality of construction is also a big plus, I have a couple of the notebooks that I havent used to date, I think I will keep them for finer nibs, as you suggest.

They definitely are really well made and at least this master size, if you open a page it opens flat pretty much straight away without having to flatten out manually which sometimes feels like compromising the binding.

Honestly I've never spent almost £30 on a notebook before, but it feels like a bargain now I have. The number of pages, the build quality and the fact I will likely get years of use out of it, definitely pleased with it.

Have you considered Galen Leather for a notebook cover? They make a variety of sizes to fit a variety of brands, including the Leuchtturm 1917, and they do a variety of model types: everything from padfolio styles to zip-up covers. Their leather also seems to come in a variety of types, from more rustic leather (ie: cruder edges, more of a Traveller's notebook look), to more refined dark, shiny leather covers (for office use, one imagines).

I don't use one (yet), but reviews online seem to praise the quality, craftsmanship, and service:

online shop:

https://www.galenleather.com

instagram:

- edit to add the usual disclaimer: not affiliated with Galen Leather, just been following them recently and reading reviews online.

- fwiw: #galenleather on instagram has a lot of non-affiliated images as well, and lots of one-line reviews of the covers.

I had looked in to those but I can't seem to find any that fit the Master size. I am looking for one of similar quality just without the internal additions for storing pens and the like. Simply a leather cover.

They do look fantastic though, just not a design I'm fond of. They are a bit utilitarian.

I got two great leather covers that fit both the Hard Cover and soft cover A5 notebooks. Bought them through Massdrop, now known as Drop. I highly recommend these covers.

They come up on Drop at pretty regular intervals, but you may be able to buy from them directly or from other vendors.

RUSTICO A5 WEBNOTEBOOK COVER. I also have a six pen leather pen wrap from them which i use everyday.

What dimension is the Master size? It's oversized, isn't it?

I'm wondering if something like a Bosca padfolio sized cover would fit it?

I highly recommend the traveller's notebooks from Meadowgate leather - https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MeadowgateLeather. or http://www.meadowgateleather.com/

The quality is exceptional.

I also have some start bay traveller's notebooks (https://www.startbaynotebooks.co.uk/collections/covers) which are also good quality, but not quite as nice as the meadowgate leather ones.

They are a tiny shop ... never hurts to ask. Chances are they would work with you on a one-off or even incorporate it in their product line.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
