Hello Friends,

 

Long time! It's been a unique 12 months but here we are. I am delighted to post this review, I've been in search of this deep, luscious, dark, purple for a very long time. I've tried mixing my own of course, but this one just hits the spot! Now as an aside, I received an email from Pure Pens to say new shiny goodies in stock including this ink YESTERDAY afternoon, and the inkoholic that I am, I ordered straight away, and well, it was in my hands at 9.08 this morning. Thank you @Pure Pens for excellent service! I've been saving my Purple Sheaffer Prelude evidently for this very moment... :wub:

Glad to hear you found your purple!! Looks beautiful! I've been looking for a dark but fun purple too (even though I am not a purple person); will have to check this one out.

Is this a new ink? An exclusive for that vendor? Or will it be part of Diamine's regular lineup in future?

Because it does look quite nice. (Like I really need another purple ink... :blush:).

This is from their email:

'...we were also pleasantly surprised to receive another two Diamine Limited Edition inks, as voted for by members of the Fountain Pens UK Facebook group - Scribble Purple and Monboddos Hat - available in 80ml bottles...'

 

From this I understand it is an LE but not exclusive to Pure Pens. They have also created Alexandrite to celebrate their 15th year in business, and that is exclusive to Pure Pens.

 

And who can't find a little room for such a gorgeous, dark purple... :lol:

Thank you for this enticing review.

 

Is this new ink really much darker than Shigure or KWZ Violet #3?

 

Does it change color as it dries?

 

Does it flow well throughout a long writing session?

You're welcome! I've done a few comparisons below for you, I experienced no issues whilst writing for about 2 hours. I noted a very slight change, but please be aware that this was a brand new freshly inked pen. I hope these help.

 

*edit: I find it very close to Shigure in flow, lubrication, saturation, sheen and dry time! Almost indistinguishable, but I imagine Diamine's is more easily available and cheaper!

And just for fun, the KWZI IG Violet #3 next to Sailor Jentle Shigure before it changed colour!

This is pretty! Like a slightly darker version of Diamine Bilberry, right down to the gold sheen :3

Agreed! I've tried getting before and after photos of IG inks and couldn't get the camera up to my face fast enough. The only thing I can think to do it would be to get a tripod that I could set up to have the camera facing down and even then maybe do a video and edit down to a single frame....

Had my phone camera primed and ready! Swipe cue tip, click! I was so pleased to capture the beautiful pink.

Hi folks, just to answer the availability questions; these inks were developed with the input of the Fountain Pens UK group on Facebook, but are part of the standard Diamine range so not unique to anywhere. Scribble Purple is the darker and wetter of the two, while Monboddo's Hat is, err pictured in my user icon! Thanks to Bhavna for the lovely review.

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

      There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

      Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

      Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
