I'm from India, and I'm considering buying this pen but I can't find many reviews of it. What do you guys personally feel about this pen?

Almost all Sailors below the tripple digits are overlooked and not talked about much.

The High Ace Neo is a very good pen, comes in only a Fine nib but writes very well and is reliable.

It is also a very light pen.

The only downside might be its girth, it is a very small pen, it's comparable to the Parker Jotter.

Overlooked because of their lack of quality? I just bought a Sailor at the $50 range to test music nibs. Mistake?

No, not at all. I am quite happy with their cheap offers and find them as reliable as their more expensive ones (High Ace Neo, Lecoule, the Shikiori line, Young Profit/ Somiko). The Somiko/ Young Profit (the one you just bought, must be the one) performs in my experience just like their gold nibs and is imo the best way to test drive their offer before buying a gold nib (so your music nib should give you a very good idea on what the gold music nib is like if you're interested in "upgrading", no mistake made!).

I think it's just because they don't do much with their cheaper pens like eg Pilot does. The Kakuno line alone seems to get regular updates. Sailor is more stagnant, though has added demonstrators (apparantley not available outside Japan) and expanded (and renamed) the Shikiori line (in tune with their inks, eg "Yonaga").

Considering much isn't happening with their cheaper offers and the "exciting" nibs are mostly available on their gold nibs, which have tonnes of variations (eg shop exclusives, creating crazy demand over very pretty pens seemingly coming out weekly!) and the cheap stuff falls off people's radar.

So Preppys, Plaisirs (which now have yearly special colours like Lamy school pens), Kakunos and Metros are more recommended. On top of that the Metro has been a real draw for beginners (really cheap and a feeling for "quality" due to many people's misconceived perception that heavy/ metal pens are somehow "better quality", esp those just stepping away from either disposables and/ or light/ plastic school stuff).

Thank you for your comments on the pen, that is indeed the one I purchased. I sold my 3776 to find a cheaper option.

Well, some of the cheap pens Sailor makes are really quite poor. I certainly cannot recommend its 11-0073 desk pens (which uses the same style of nibs and feeds as the HiAce Neo), or the 11-0127 Fude de Mannen clipless pens, or the 10-0212 Fude de Mannen pen for that matter. The construction of the HiAce Neo isn't exactly good, but yes, I'd say its nib and its pen body (at least for the translucent-barrelled models) are both better than the aforementioned models. However, you may as well just go straight to the Sailor Profit Junior, which has a better body and a much better nib.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I have found Sailor to be disappointing as of late, which bums me out as a superfan. There's a quality issue there that I've experienced with some of the higher end pens that I wasn't expecting to have. Some people say the same thing about Platinum, but I've only had one bad pen from them and unfortunately several from Sailor.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
