I have just got one from Amazon UK for £19.99 (Jan '22).

That’s a very good price - I paid more than that from eBay a few months ago.   I think some of your comments are quite harsh - comparing to Chinese pens is not really fair, as most of their pens are based on the Western (or Japanese) big names.  My wife’s Parker Sonnet clone (Jinhao) was under a tenner including converter and is a truly outstanding writer.

Can’t comment on the cartridges (never use them), but Waterman’s own push converter is fine.  Do you need a threaded one for some reason?   I love my big steel Eiffel Tower F nib, but each to their own.  They can start slightly dry, but mine eased up a lot after being left overnight - or you could try flushing it out a bit.  I really enjoy writing with mine but, as I said, each to their own.

Trust you find a better fit next time.

I recently purchased a red Embléme with a medium nib.  It doesn't comes with a converter, so I purchased a Waterman converter also.  For the pen plus the converter, I paid USD $72.18 (plus tax).  The nib is awful; it is a dry writer and very scratchy, even though a magnified view showed it to be aligned properly.  So, the pen is a poor value as an entry-level fountain pen.  I like its looks, though, as I tend to prefer the simple lines that remind me of the 1950s and 1960s (I'm 68).  I even tried replacing the Waterman nib with a German (Schmidt) medium stainless steel nib; that nib was longer than the Waterman nib, but it fit fine.  The substitute nib wrote better than the Waterman nib, but it still wrote on the very dry side.  I've since given up on the pen, cleaned it out, replaced the Waterman nib on it, and stored it with other fountain pens.  Here are a few photos.

I have read around a bit more and, judging from the comments, the quality control for these pens must be very poor.  Too many bad examples out there in a product line blatantly over-hyped by Waterman.  I fear that you paid roughly double what the pen is really worth - the red bodied one is difficult to find on sale, unlike the ivory, grey, black or blue (which I have).

It’s a shame: the whole thing undermines the Waterman brand, even if those of us who “luck out” get a nice pen.  Mine works great with Diamine Turquoise ink in a converter, never had any issues.

The Waterman Emblem that I have is a good writer but the nib is like a nail. I use only Waterman long cartridges without any problem.Maybe the target market is not an easy one, expensive if you compare it with the Parker Vector LX or Lamy Safari and it is not specially different from the design of many other brands. The Waterman Phileas had a peculiar design and was sold in many exclusive colours and patterns. To have a good seller pen manufactures should offer writing instruments with a nice body that is in the right price range .

As it happens, I also have a Phileas, with EF nib.  When I first got it, I noticed it behaved somewhat differently to my other pens.  I now think that its steel nib behaves a bit like a real gold nib!  I now like it - a lot.

I bought this pen as an everyday in my pocket if I lose it shopping at the market pen, I won’t feel a financial

loss.

It did write scratchy and tended to skip a bit so I gave it a good flush and 12 hour soak in tap water.  Now it writes well for it’s use - I use the Waterman Mystery Blue cartridges.

Interesting - I made some changes to my pen line-up, following an acquisition, and now solely use Waterman Mysterious Blue in my Emblème (with a converter).  It seems to like this particular ink the best of all!

Is the Embléme like the Allure also made in China?

From what I can establish, it is “meticulously crafted” in France.

In terms of parts (apart from the cap), it is very similar to the now discontinued Phileas.  Cosmetic differences aside, the nib and feed are probably identical.

It also is similar to the Kultur. It seems that the Kultur is available (again) for about a third of the retailprice of the Embleme.

The Emblème is blatantly overpriced!

Interesting to know about the Kultur - thanks. 😊

The Kultur can be found here (not affiliated) and at many other online shops.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
