Montblanc Manganese Orange

Another consequence of Montblanc's recent revamp of their line of inks (cf. Modena Red).

Manganese Orange is a pale, dry, not in the least lubricating orange ink not worth mentioning.

Agreed... not an inspiring ink. Not even for me, who likes muted colours. Their Lucky Orange looks nice though. I’m really at a loss what MB are aiming at... bringing out watered-down versions of previously well-done inks. Looks to me like a step in the wrong direction, especially with the high price per bottle.

Yes, pale too (as in their Modena). I.e., too pale, too. Good thing I got their Lucky hit, along the line of Omas' orange (unfortunately now unvamped). Nice shading, though!

Do you think that MB are perhaps going out of their way to create a truly 'standard' and uninteresting line, so that LEs & Inks of the Year seem more exciting by comparison?

These scans dont look pale to me. I am not a fan of pale inks, but this looks like a great color I would like to try, though not at MB prices, esp. if it is dry.

Thanks for the review.

Makes you wonder what MB is thinking, Sure, come out with new inks so people will stock up on the old stuff that they really liked like Corn Poppy (yes, I do like it). But replace those inks with watered down wimps? I don't get it. I take that back, I do get it. They know by now that many of us have to have every ink on the market. They can't really care about the desirability of the color, just the desire to own a "new" ink. It doesn't matter that the ink might not even be ledgable when put on paper and end up sitting on a shelf next to four bottles of pale yellow, what matters is that MB knows we'll buy a new ink just because it's new and they market it. And while they're at it, charge 17 prices.

I found Lucky Orange decent but ordinary. Then I used it again today for drawing. It's heavenly compared to this Manganese.

My experience with this was quite different. I did find Lucky Orange to be a bit 'flat' but it did produce some serious ink crud at times yet in spite of that I enjoyed it. Manganese Orange ive really enjoyed. In a very broad nib it gives great shading, has no ink crud and a very pleasant lubrication but not an especially high flow, if that makes sense.

seems almost identical to the cartridge of platinum Gold Ochre (one of the 3 mix colors /w recipe guide they threw in with the procyon)

I like it more than I thought I would.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

All these new MB reviews are making me wonder if I really should nab a bottle of Toffee Brown and Mystery Black while my local brick and mortar still has them. The new colours - that orange included - are already creeping in, and even the salespersonnel aren't very excited about them. :/

Not as bad as the Lady Pink, though I suppose that's damning it with faint praise.

Thank you for saving me from this ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
