Kwz Ink - Honey

Inky-Republic

Recommended Posts

Just received a 60 ml bottle of a honey coloured ink from KWZ.

I was looking for something to match Pelikan's Edelstein Amber and thought this might be a close match.

As it tuned out it was not too bad, although if anything a little short in the red spectrum to be a really close match.

One thing that struck me though is how "Wet" this KWZ ink is and even with a pen that has a "miser" feed, you can get the ink to flow like there is no tomorrow!

I did notice however that the ink penetrates pretty well, so you'll need to be mindful of what paper is used.

All in all though a very useful ink - and the honey/bronze lustre of the product is very attractive in it's own right.

Available from Fontoplumo at just under ten euros.

Sorry, was a comment on it's wetness rather than a review - but here you go (pen is a Noodlers Ahab)

Hi IR,

I've heard KWZ inks are wet... it's one of the scant few inks I haven't got around to trying yet.

It would be interesting to compare that to Diamine's Les Paul Honey Sunburst... :) ...which I do have.

Is that an IG ink... ...because those I shy away from...

Be well and enjoy life. :)

Hi Anthony,

I just wet my finger and drew it across the text in the above sample. The ink immediately re-liquefied and spread across the page, so I don't think it is of the ig variety :)

Thanks, looks nicely saturated.

KWZ inks in general are my favourite brand of ink. The colours are incredibly saturated and they tend to have a tonne of shading potential to them. Some are a bit dryer than others though, I found 'Thief's Red' is a bit dry compared to Honey for example, although that could be the pen i loaded it into (a Lamy 2000) which was the only pen which i have used that ink in so far. I am currently working through the samples i got for my birthday and christmas in my work pens. So far Old Gold and Honey are quite similar but different enough to make me lust after both. El Dorado is my favourite by far. Baltic Seas is a really nice blue.

Shades very nicely when diluted.

Not IG, just part of the standard ink range.

That is a lot of honey, way too sweet for my taste. wink.png

In my experience even the IG inks are fairly wet (at least as compared to other IG inks). I was actually quite surprised at how wet IG Violet #3 is.

Personally, I think a lot of IG inks are neat. A few I've tried I didn't like the color (KWZI IG Red being a notable example, since it oxidized to a sort of nasty brownish blood-red). But others -- both the IG and standard line inks are very nice.

I have a sample of Honey, but haven't tried it yet. Guess I need to try it soon. Although I think they've changed the formula so that it no longer *smells* like honey....

Hi IR,

OK, Great... thank you much.

 I think that could be said for most cats... including mine... :D ...

Me, too. ;)

Hi Ruth,

Okay, thanks... I'm gonna check them out... even the IG inks... I'll just make sure I put the latter in the pens I wouldn't mind losing.

I use IG/waterproof inks daily and have used them in a lot of pens including Noodler's in a MB. biggrin.png

No issues yet.

Don't let it dry out and pen maintenance every 3 weeks.

haha this is why if i ever get any IG inks they will be exclusively for use in my Jenhao 992's. I suck at remembering things on a daily basis let alone a weekly basis.

I'm not particularly fond of my Pelikan M200 (Smoky Quartz) with steel F nib, but Platinum Classic Ink Khaki Black (iron-gall ink) has somewhat redeemed the pen for pen and saved it from life in a junk pile. I've had the same fill of ink in it for two months or more now, and haven't seen any ill effects.

Similarly, I'm not particularly fond of my Pilot Namiki Falcon with 14K gold SF nib, but Platinum Classic Ink Lavender Black is redeeming the pen to me now, and I expect it to stay inked for months with more-than-occasional (say, twice a week) use.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

OTOH, get a dedicated demonstrator to use Noodler's BSB for some eye searing magic.

I am all for IG/waterproof inks and use them more than the normal inks.

Glad they have helped you rekindle a bond with some of your sidelined pens. thumbup.gif

I am not fond of the M200/400/600, although I do occasionally use the M215.

OTOH, I was going to procure a Pilot Falcon at some point. What exactly don't you like about it?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
