Twsbi Vac 700R

The TWSBI Vac 700R retails for around $130(Rs.9000).

Is the pen worth it at this price?

I've looked around on the internet, but I found a brick and mortar store near my house that sells the pen at the above price. I want to support them, but I don't know if I'm paying too much for the pen.

BTW, I absolutely need a vacuum filler.

Any thoughts?

Hi

I have three of them, that have all been inked for over a year and sometimes get left for weeks between use and I've never had a hard start or skipping; I do tend to store them horizontally which helps to keep the nib wet.

They are great pens, a bit more bulky than some of the other TWSBI's but really nice to write with.

I'll never buy another TWSBI. I've had several of them, including two Vac 700s, and I've experienced a long series of fractures and broken parts. I know TWSBI will send me replacement parts when I ask, and I know the pens are cheap enough to simply buy two and have a spare on hand for when one inevitably breaks, but. . . There are many other brands of fountain pen that I can buy and not have to deal with this problem.

I can purchase at $65.00 usd with a ef,f,m,or b nib.

With a 1.1 mm stub at $70.00 usd.....

Of course this is without shipping cost..which would be between $7.00 and $10.00 usd {some vendors offer free shipping}.

I have the 700 Vac..{and many other TWSBI pens all} without any issues....I must be

one lucky son-of-a-beach......Only you can determine if this is a good price for you.

Young man good luck in your quest..and take care..............

at that price? nooooooooooo.

for $75? yes. I've been using my 700R with a custom gold nib for over a year and it's been trouble free.

get a penbbs 456. It's as good as the 700R, you just only get one nib option (though you can swap in any $15 #6 JoWo nib easily and painlessly)

I find the 580 more comfortable

Hi RudraDev,

No.

I paid $65 for my 700 and I think I paid too much... I prefer the 580 a lot more... for several reasons.

There are other pens out there, (even with the Indian tariffs), that are worth $130,... but the TWSBI Vac is not one of them.

I guess I'm an outlier that I kind of hate the 580. It just feels like it should post, and the fact that it does not just drives me insane.

I also find the 700R to be better balanced.

But yes, don't buy a 700R for that. I'd be happy to buy one for you in the states for $65 and ship it for you if you really wanted one.

and all other things equal, the penbbs 456 is every bit as good as the TWSBI. I'd argue its got an even better filling mechanism (though you can't disassemble it without a crescent wrench, it has a weird sized filler mechanism.)

Thanks so much for the offer, but if you bought the pen there and then sent it to me, the shipping cost and custom duties would bring the total cost to around $100.

But, I'm glad there are super nice people here!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
