Pilot E95S

Hi All,

I'm interested in opinions about the E95s as I have an urge to buy one and as a stockist I can give myself a good deal lol.

I really want to try this to try out the 14k gold nib as I haven't had a gold nib pen before.

Thanks in advance.

It has a really nice gold nib - very smooth and consistent flow with all inks I've tried.

Never skipped, no hard starts experienced either.

I'd recommend it!

I just got one yesterday! The capping and uncapping mechanism on the pen is phenomenal. It feels and looks like a classy pen.

My fine nib is smooth, but not the smoothest Pilot nib I've used. My E95S has pencil like feedback. It's a little on the dry side with Pilot Blue ink, but never skips or hard starts. I bet with a wetter ink or a medium nib, the nib will glide on the page very smoothly.

The pen is very comfortable in the hand. You can use the pen unposted to cross off items on your to-do list, but if you are going to do any actual writing, you will want to post the pen.

I personally think the $150 price is high for the pen. The Vanishing Point and Custom 74 are better values at the same price point. But if you want a snap cap or a pocket-sized pen with a 14k gold nib, then the E95S is a great choice!

Hope that helps!

Currently inked:

- Pilot Custom 743 <M> with Pilot Black

- Pelikan M120 Iconic Blue <B> with Pilot Blue

- Lamy Studio All Black <M> with Pilot Blue-Black

You might also want to consider a second-hand Elite (ie not the modern E95s). On the face of it, theyre exactly the same, but I find the modern nibs a bit drier and without the same character. As long as youre not looking for a rare variant, theyre pretty good value.

I agree with effandpee. The E95s is drier than the original. They are both good pens, but the original is even better!

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "F" nib running Birmingham Firebox

Majohn 140 "M" nib running Lamy Dark Lilac

Kaweco Sport Aluminum "M" nib running Diamine Firefly

Delta Reservoir "EF" nib running Colorverse Mariner

I have two of these, an EF and an M. Both work well, but I prefer the M.

I have the Elite 95s in the burgundy color with a medium nib, replacing another one that I had lost. It has a beautiful wet and smooth medium nib, and writes a pretty true medium. Very nice writer, and I like the color combination a lot.

I like my Pilot Elite 95s in deep red with an EF nib. It writes rather smoothly without being pervertedly devoid of kinaesthetic feedback, and while it isn't as fine as Sailor and Platinum EF nibs it writes finely enough. I left mine inked with Diamine Oxblood all the time, and often leave the pen sleeping undisturbed in my pen display case for weeks on end, but it always wrote immediately upon being uncapped, and I've never had a problem with the ink drying out in the meantime (or any issues with observable crud), so I must conclude the cap seals the pen really well.

For the princely sum ofA$107.64 delivered back in September 2018, I'm very happy with my purchase. The only thing that stops me from acquiring more pens of the same model is the lack of different colours.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
