WINSOR & NEWTON

Hmm........maybe i'm having a bad week........first the india black clogged up my Rotring....and today i had a green explosion in my Parker 25..........my hands look like i just beat up a ninja turtle.

Anyone have any experiences with Winsor & Newton inks? the green is very nice...i have no complaints on the color....but my pens don't seem to handle these inks. Purchased them at Micheals....came in a set of blue, green, red, black, sephia and 2 other inks for dip pens.

I really really really wanted to ink my Parker with a nice green :(

any thoughts/reviews/suggestions would be totally appreciated.

Alan

Those are dip pen inks only as far as I know and should not be used in a FOUNTAIN PEN.

Take the dip pen ink far far away from your fountain pen and look at Private Reserve Sherwood Forest or Spearment or Sea Foam greens. Your pens WILL handle these.

hmmm.....maybe so.....i am a novice to the game

I probably should have researched the ink prior to purchasing.........the label clearly states: "for fountain pen AND dip pens".....it says nothing about exclusivity.

I think i will be trashing the ink when i get home......unless anyone wants to trade A nice fountain pen friendly green for 6 bottles of ink.....or is it 8? i could've sworn there was 2 "dip pen only" ink in the pack.

Red

Green

Sephia

Blue

India Black

Can't remember the last 2 if there was 8 bottles in total....have to check when i get home

FOR TRADE: My 6 (or 8) pack of Winsor & Newton ink..........for........ a nice bottle of green ink........I want my parker 25 to have green ink.

let me know if anyone is interested.....though i warn you........My rotring hasn't reacted well with the Sephia, and my Parker 25 didn't agree with the green.

Ahh!! :o Only use inks specially formulated for fountain pens. Most likely, if it says for dip pens and fountain pens, you shouldn't use it. All the fountain pen ink I've bought doesn't even mention dip pens. Also, Michael's and other places like that do not sell true fountain pen ink. Check out the net for good inks like Waterman, Private Reserve, and Noodler's. Trust me! You don't want to keep using india ink in those pens!

India ink is like putting diesel fuel into a car that runs on LPG gas

Not only will it not work, it has a very high chance of damaging the pen :( I read somewhere that India Ink contains shellac, which can permanently clog pens.

Good Greens? Waterman Green and Sheaffer Skrip Green are two nice ones. Plenty of greens out there - Noodlers various greens are beautiful too :D

Yeah...i'm not too impressed with myself for not researching the ink prior to purchase. I've got my Parker 25 dismantled on a paper towel drying at home.........i hope i didn't do any permanant damage to it....i think it should be fine...those pens are solid work horses.

I'm off a bit early today....i'm going to try to get to the Vancouver Pen Shop......they're open till 5pm on Saturdays.

Check out this thread that discussed the Winsor & Newton ink question

(How does one insert a topic link?)

Like this:

Which produces this link: Winsor & Newton Calligraphy Ink, Ok for fountain pens?

The only problem is, the link doesn't open in a new browser window or tab -- so my personal preference is to use a URL tag as you did above.

THANKS, Viseguy. Now, if I can just duplicate that....

picked up some quink and waterman ink from the Vancouver Pen Shop......very nice staff and helpful considering i popped in 20 minutes before closing.

The girl working there said that she would be surprised if my pen still worked after putting india ink inthere....i told her that the parker 25 is a robust pen and it should be fine (i'm gonna find out in 10 minutes if i was right)......regardless.....she's got nibs and parts for the Parker 25 so i know where to go if the pen is toast.

sigh......well at least the Rotring is still working....i stuck a caran d'ache ink cartridge in there and ordered a new converter from swisherpens.

wish me luck

The best thing you can do for the pens that had india ink put in them is to go back to the craft store and pick up some cleaner for technical pens... it is meant to clean out india ink....
