Montblanc Meisterstuck Le Petit Prince & The Aviator

I had the same questions as you Adim. So, thanks for asking them! :)

Although, for me, the answers would have little effect, since I already put in my order.

It is funny, if I recall correctly, when the blue one came out most of us (including me) were concerned with the cap engravings.

Now, most of us (again, including me) are not too happy with the lack of engravings... :D

@Lam1, that's what I meant when I posted that some people were concerned about the cap engravings (I for one loved it), apparently someone from Montblanc listened, giving us a pen of understated elegance (ugh!).

My experience with Montblanc nib exchanges hasn't been good so far. I sent my brand new Unicef LeGrand for a nib exchange about 4 weeks ago - to the Texas service center. After 3 weeks, I called and found out that it will take at least another 12 weeks before they will even get the nib (OB) from Germany, and another 2-3 weeks to exchange the nib and send it back to me. I just hope to get it before Christmas. :D

Quick update - I got my pen back with a nice OB nib. It only took 8 weeks, not the 12-15 they quoted me. Yeah! MB just went up a few points in my book. :happycloud9:

Just bought mine yesterday. These are the photos I took of the fountain pen Solitaire Doué LeGrand.

And with a little writing sample with the medium nib and Encre du Desert because my reseller hasn't yet received the ink and the notebook:

What a gorgeous pen! I love the embossed leather cap. But it does look quite heavy. Congratulations on your purchase, Cyrille.

The ink does look nice as well. What kind of notebook were you writing in? What kind of paper?

Enjoy your beautiful pen! :D

Note that the ink in that picture is last year's (or older?) Exupery Encre de Desert. This year's is more brown, as penworld shows, for example: https://www.penworld.be/media/magpleasure/mpblog/upload/5/3/53e3307698a3ea20bcb95975eb31c01c.jpg

I haven't seen a review or more pictures of the ink yet.

Encre de Desert is 2 years old, has been released at the same time than the W.E Saint-Exupéry. I'm still waiting the new one too with the new notebook.

For the paper it is a standard Clairefontaine notebook with a paper 90g I think.

So true, my thoughts exactly!

If Montblanc's product development team is reading this forum, they are definitely scratching their heads, "we have no idea how to please these guys..."! I'll break it down for them:

TO MONTBLANC DEVELOPMENT TEAM:

The people who like the engravings will buy the pen with engravings, but not without engravings;

Those who dislike the engravings won't buy the pen at all, with or without engravings ;)

Generalizing of course, haha!

Cheers to all!

I like the Doué version the best. If it were a 146 with a silver cap instead of 145 and steel, it would have been even more ideal … :)

I would also like that very much!

I don't know if MB tries to keep the cost low by offering steel, or if they think the non-core fountain pen users prefer something with a more modern look. A sterling cap version will probably add $300 to the final price.

My pen is now back from Hamburg with its new BB nib, the first in my collection. Some macro photos of the nib and a quick writing test with the new nib and the MB Homage to Hadrian Rosso Antico ink.

Oh wow, is that really the Hadrian ink? On my screen, it looks suspiciously similar to Toffee Brown...

Yes it is the Hadrian ink. The paper is ivory and the light not very well so it could alter the result but when I saw it for me the ink is more brown than red it is a fact.

Its the exact same as the blue version, but this time is brown.. and the nib is different too

yup. I have inspected the brown version a few days ago and it didn't appeal to me. The pen is a bit boring without the engraved cap. Also I prefer the fox/prince over the sheep as a nib engraving Edited by Skv

Thanks for the details, that's good to know. I'm not after a red ink, but with some brown tones, the decision could change. :)

I am rather tempted to get the Le Petit Prince Doué Aviation 145/Classique version (steel cap brown barrel) with a B nib. Does anyone know if the B on classique size nib is a bit stubby or not? B nibs on different MB models tend to be inconsistent. From the limited number of MB pens I've handled in store, B on 146 has no line variation (BB does). B on 100-year Anniversary (the safety inspired cc pen) is stubby. There are usually no B nibs to try on these special edition pens. I wouldn't want to go through nib exchange program only to find out that I have to send the nib to a nibmeister to grind. Thank you!
