Just bought mine yesterday. These are the photos I took of the fountain pen Solitaire Doué LeGrand.

And with a little writing sample with the medium nib and Encre du Desert because my reseller hasn't yet received the ink and the notebook:

I just ordered this same pen at my boutique today. They had the notebook so I am enjoying the notebook while waiting for my pen to arrive.

The old boss of IWC is obsessed with this little prince. Now at Montblanc he brings it with him. A pen I get, but now 3 series of them? A little overkill.

If the Little Prince series sells well, I predict that they will keep bringing out new models as long as the sales are strong.

I sincerely love the Aviator Sand of the desert ink. It writes very well and looks beautiful with some nice shading.

Thank you zaddick. I've never asked for a nib exchange except on regular production pens... any idea if the swap takes longer on these "special" nibs?

I recently got a nib swap on my new 146 Petit Prince and Fox. It has a special nib. Got it back with a new nib within 8 days.

The Holiday Set version of this has the two tone nib, plus the trimmings were in champagne instead of the silver.

From the US it takes longer than a regular 146 because it goes to Hamburg vs Texas...

So does that mean that Montblanc no longer has the big facility in New Jersey?

I see. That might take longer.

And I see you got the ink and notebook to complete the set!

Yes, I got both to keep me occupied while waiting for the pen to get its nib changed. Obviously, I never got around to opening the notebook though.

Enjoy your new pen. I have mine in BB and it is a pleasure to write with it. Finally got the ink associated and the result is interesting. Just now have to buy the notebook to have the full set too.

Thanks Cyrille. The notebook was actually the bit that made me want the solitaire; I really like the design and decided that I wanted it on the pen as well.

  • 1 month later...

I visited the MB store of Champs-Elysées yesterday and they already had the Holiday Set of 2019 in limited edition. It is composed by 2 pens of the format of the LeGrand Solitaire Doué, one fully covered by leather and the second one fully engraved. So it is a mix of the Solitaire Doué edition released in May:

It is a very nice set and I really like the fully engraved version.

I really like the concept of this set but after seeing this picture, I don't like the all leather model as much as I did when I saw the pre-production renders. The all metal pen does look pretty good though.

Wonder if they'd be selling the the all metal on its own tho? I'm guessing both would cost around 3900 euro?

Yes it is around 3900€ (don't remember the last digits of the price) but I don't think MB will send the all metal separately. I think they have been made for this limited Holiday Set. But if they do, I think it could be a successful pen :)

Last time I discuss with my reseller and watched the catalog and different mails of MB, I don't think another pen is foreseen this year for Le Petit Prince, only this limited Holiday Set and I think there is no not limited Holiday Set foreseen too.

I doubt they are going to release the single finish models on their own. If MB were going to do that I think the standard solitaire model would have been released as the all metal version and the holiday edition would have been the leather model.

Awww, that's just too bad Cyrille, Personally I don't know why anyone one would want two pens that are almost exactly the same (plus I wonder what's underneath all that leather? Plain metal?). In anycase there are other exciting things being offered. I can't imagine someone buying those pens, then after a few weeks purchasing the Calligraphy 149 & 146, then after a few months the Great Characters, I mean, can imagine some who are collectors, but from a users perspective, I would love to use the same pen for a few months before moving on to another pen.
