Platinum 3776 Maki-E

I'm currently eyeing a Platinum 3776 Century Maki-e Sansui.

I wasn't able to find a lot of reviews or info on this pen.

Does anyone here have experience with the pen? Is it worth the extra money over the Platinum Kanazawa? How does the artwork hold up over several years of use?

Are there any specific reasons (except design) to choose the Platinum over the Sailor/Pilot equivalents (or the other way around)?

I have a newish one and a relatively old one. The art work on the old one is still fresh and crisp. The nib still writes well, although I left ink in the pen for several years and the nib corroded a little. I also have a Sailor maki-i (see avatar) for which I paid many times the price of the Platinums. I have to admit I like all three brands, but the Platinum maki-i is good value for the price. I can post pictures later if you like.

I have a Platinum Sansui and it's a nice introduction to Maki-e.

You would better compare with a normal pen. Is a screen-printed design worth 140 Euro to you?

From what I could gather at Platinum's website, the range wherein the Sansui is included has urushi maki-e (official designation is PTL-30000B).

 

Platinum Kanazawa (official designation is PTL-15000H) has gold leaf and also urushi coating. The latter seems to be a different thing when compared to urushi maki-e, but I might be mixing things up as it is quite the late night here already.

It is important to notice that the silk screen printing seems to exist only on the lower PTL-12000M. I found no mention on the brand's website concerning the usage of that method on the15000H.

 

In addition, while the Sansui is a full 3376 Century, the Kanazawa is a 'Standard' model in the Platinum range which does not benefit from the Slip and Seal tech and is simple snap cap, as opposed to the 3376 Century's (who has the tech and a screw cap). Plus, the Sansui is 14k gold as opposed to a 18k gold in the 15000H.

IMHO, it seems at first sight that the Sansui is worthy of the price tag when it comes to aesthetics + 'exclusivity', for lack of a better word.
