Yes - the blue/yellow one they only made 15 of. Easily KOP size or larger. I will see if I can manage a comparison shot with a 3776 later which is the only other pen I have on me while I am here right now. I used the Pilot Custom Urushi as a stand-in to buy a pen case for it because it felt wrong to take it out of the box in Itoya to see if it would fit, but I am really not sure if the case I bought will fit it.

 

Edit: I'm hesitant to open the thing because of the weird tax-free stipulations on goods here, but screw it. I'm not using it until I get home anyway because I bought a bottle of Kobe ink to go with it that I'm not opening until I get back.

 

Edit 2: I lied: they wrapped the pen up inside the bag even. There's no way I can open it without it being obvious and I don't want to deal with customs if they decide to check me at the airport. I will try to remember to photograph it when I get home.

Too many pens; too little writing.

I already posted information about kemma but I dont have any other information about the company other than using sapphire nib like a literal gemstone as a nib which well costs a premium

Yeah that pen was bigger than I expected! It looked really nice too, but if I bought it I couldn't get the pens I wanted. Had they sold many do you know? What was the nib like?

I'm still collecting in the first step up range so I got a Pilot Custom 742 sfm- what a beautiful nib!

 

Looked at the lemon pen in Maruzen, pretty but I didn't really like the nib.

 

I loved the pen show- the tester stations in particular were great and some of the high end pens were spectacular! (And some were hideous lol)

Eboya uses Bock nibs which they tune in-house. I got a fine and it writes smooth and perfect wetness. I was there early on the first day and I don't think they had sold many yet, if any. It's not a pen for everyone because of the size, but I wanted a show exclusive. The Nakaya was tempting, but $2000...

Yes - it just means they check it for alignment under a loupe and make sure it writes to their standards. They smooth them if necessary and adjust for flow. The rep double checked mine before he let me test it. Just the basic set-up stuff to make sure you're getting a well writing nib. Not a custom set-up or anything, but they would have done that there had I needed it. It wore to my standards when I tested it. I'm not super picky unless it's too dry and skips or so wet it's unwritable.

Huh - it was my understanding that you're not supposed to open anything you bought and claimed tax free until you leave the country. Or does that only apply to things that are consumable in some way? Edited by OmegaMountain

:) Inks are 2000 + tax for 25ml. The pen was 18 000 if I remember correctly.

I'm going to be in Kyoto and planned on going to TAG while I am there. Might pick a bottle up if a color strikes my interest.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
