The Clairefontaine Classic Wirebound notebook is the only fountain pen friendly notebook I can find in American letter size, at least from a well known manufacturer. Clairefontaine and Rhodia papers generally do not sheen that well, but is this one an exception?

Black n' Red make a letter-sized notebook, but these two (Clairefontaine and Black n' Red) are the only ones I can think of.

Not sure why you don't think inks sheen well on Clairefontaine and Rhodia - they seem to in my experience. Maybe not as well as Tomoe River, but nothing does as well as Tomoe River (that I can recall hearing about).

I don't have tangible experience with either of them, but judging by what I have seen, the sheen is pretty weak compared to other brands.

Do you know if Black n' Red or the classic wirebound handle sheening well though?

I rarely see glaringly obvious sheen except from the overly saturated Organics Studio Ralph Waldo Emerson Twilight Blue. And I suspect what you're looking for is glaringly obvious sheen.

Also, in my experience, you have to get the light and angle correct, or you won't see sheen at all.

That said, here's Yama Dori on various papers. It sheened on everything, including the crappy little notebook from WalMart. As is always the case, photographing was difficult - I don't have a setup to facilitate this, just a cell phone.

Clairefontaine was the hardest to photograph (there was more sheen than the photo shows, but not much). It and the cheap WalMart paper appear to be the worst. Tomoe River, Rhodia, Midori MD, and Black n' Red all show sheen well - under the conditions which cause sheen. Given your wish for American paper sizes, I'd say go with Black n' Red - I got mine off Amazon (where the price fluctuates pretty drastically). NOTE: Both Black n' Red and Clairefontaine are 8.5x11 including the paper in the wire that binds it, so when you pull it out (Black n' Red is perforated), it will be smaller.

I left the photo huge because it's easier to see sheen that way.

Wow, thank you for the effort of putting up all these pictures. Seeing as the notebooks are less than ten dollars each, I will try Black n' Red.
