Stephen's Pens Info Thread (With Photos)

The Stephens are much underrated, a handsome pen.

I know that the name 106 related to the retail price 10/6 or ten shillings sixpence, just over 50 pence today or around 75 cents, but did the 176 cost 17/6, seventeen shillings and sixpence?

Unlike the 56, 76 and 106 which were named after their prices, I don't know if the 176 was - I presume so.

The whole naming a pen after its price is a very strange marketing decision - that's likely to end in bankruptcy, especially in a high inflationary era!  It works in Year 1 and maybe Year 2 but by Year 3+ the company's cost structure will have changed, the employees will have (hopefully) got a pay rise and other production costs will have increased!  Stephens eventually broke the link between the pen price and pen name with the Stephens 270 model.  I guess they broke the link before the whole idea bankrupted them!

Just come across this and dug out my only Stephens which I think people will appreciate. It's a green jade SENIOR button filler in an art deco style and is the only one I've ever seen.
