New M800 Stone Garden

I find the M800 the best Pelikan FP, it's just the perfect size, the 1000 is very nice but too large. This new colour is anyhow interesting.

Go bespoke.

All my tailored shirts will accommodate a 1000 perfectly else it goes in the inner coat pocket.

Can't afford it... spent too much buying the pens!! :) Just found a reasonably priced example of the pink stripe M600 to go with its blue and white cousins.

Thank you for an interesting idea, though... perhaps if I was having a holiday in Hong Kong or Singapore.

No work, no briefcase... retirement has its downside, eh!

I've just received my M 800 Stone Garden (fine nib) at a wonderful bargain price from Iguana Sell who are offering a Winter Sale 30% off promotion. I paid £304 including postage, which is very substantially lower than other sellers are offering even on Ebay.

After 2 days of using it, I am REALLY impressed. This is one of Pelikan's most inspired M800s, with an understated elegance in the colouring and the matching subtle blue cap (rather than the usual black). The pen also has all the excellent construction features of a Pelikan and is likely to be one of my absolute top writing pens for years to come- (I do a lot of handwritten work, both fiction and non-fiction).

The Stone Garden is also an interesting variant on the "crushed marble" effects of the Vibrant Blue or Renaissance Brown versions of the M800 (both of which I have in my collection), but it is more subtle and less "showy". And the body of the pen is transparent when held up to a lamp which is a great feature: other recent examples without an ink window (such as the Ocean Swirl, for example) really require a very bright torch to shine their opaque bodies to see how much ink is left.

Now that the 2019 Edelstein ink of the year is the Star Ruby, perhaps we will be offered a Star Ruby M800 as well as the normal matching M200...?! Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Thats a great price, especially for Iguana Sell. I normally dont track that vendor but Ill start paying attention for their future sales. Edited by Mulrich

I usually find them expensive too, but that sounds like a great deal.

One thing Aussie buyers should note in that the website prices for Australia include GST, and the eBay.com.au prices are the same... but because it's an overseas vendor, eBay then add another 10% GST to the total cost of item plus P&P!

If you want it, go to the website.

The coupon code didnt work for some reason. The seller must have restrictions about what pens the discount works on and quadratus got lucky.

I find them all to be equally comfortable in my hand. Size is never a real consideration for me when reaching for one of my Pelikans. I just don't take the M1000 out very much because it doesn't fit in my shirt pocket.

~ When I read this it resonated with me.

I feel similarly about fountain pen size, as to length, girth or overall mass.

While there are no larger Pelikans on my writing desk, those present all feel equally comfortable.

The same is true about other brands and models of fountain pen.

What I generally reach for is a particular nib, or possibly an ink.

I've never carried a fountain pen in a shirt pocket.

I've never had the opportunity to hold an M600. I wonder who owns both M600 & M800 and likes them equally. Same consideration for M800 & M1000.

I have all 3 sizes and generally prefer the 800s & 1000s for writing, but the 600s are OK and tend to be even prettier to look at.

So I have some more for use and some more for eye-candy. Extravagance, I know.

Here's an image that better represents the true colour of the pen.

This picture really shows the pattern of the material...its reminds me of how a cable is made of twisted strands. You can see the corkscrew pattern in the colors...not sure how I feel about that. I prefer the more random materials (like the Renaissance Brown for example).

Ive seen Renaissance Brown in person and own Stone Garden. To me, the former just looks like a mess for some reason. It should in theory be beautiful, but its just such a busy design because of the transparency and discrete swirliness. Like its transparent-ish, but not. Stone Garden is more understated in person, despite the orange bits. Its not as bright as on that photograph in typical indoor lighting conditions. The navy blue cap and such look great, and the solid creamy navy blue grounds the flashy pattern on the barrel. Im glad there are so many designs to choose from, since everyones opinions on appealing combinations differ.

I too prefer the 800 and 1000, but the 1000 is used a lot more.

OTOH, get rid of the eye candy 600's and use the funds to buy bespoke shirts to carry the 800 and 1000. biggrin.png

I said I did not want one because it had no ink window, then I saw one in person at a brick and mortar store in Branford, Connecticut. Well guys, I broke down and bought it, and I am in love with the way it looks in the sunlight!

Welcome to the club! This pen looks as good in person as it does on pretty photographs :) Enjoy!

I seem to be warming to it; but not hot enough to pull the trigger, yet. biggrin.png

IF it had RT/CT instead of GT, I wouldn't be still contemplating.

Looks lovely, nonetheless.

I am sure it will be a nice addition to the collection of those who have been fortunate to procure it.

Somehow I overlooked your very nice image of the M800 Stone Garden.

When I was in graduate school in Rhode Island many decades ago, I visited lovely Branford.

Your positive endorsement of the pen's beauty is heartening to read.

Thank you for posting the image and comments.
