Sheaffer Pfm Production Dates

Periodically I look at the listings for Sheaffer PFM models on ebay, and began to wonder about how long this pen was manufactured and/or in the catalogs. I know it was introduced in 1959. When was it discontinued? I know Sheaffer dropped the "Sheaffer'S" designation about 1963 or so, and I have never seen a PFM that was marked "Sheaffer," so I'm wondering if the PFM was dropped before the switch to "Sheaffer" or if they just continued to have it in the catalogs for several years into the later 1960s using older stock.

Anybody have any info on this?

I know the 1968 date has been given previously, but I have to wonder. Perhaps they were still offered, but consisted of older stock. There seem to be no pens with the "Sheaffer" as opposed to "Sheaffer's" trademark on them, and I have never encountered a PFM ad later than the early '60s. Does anybody have any mid- to late-1960s Sheaffer catalogs?

From what I've heard you could find snorkels (and I assume PFM's) into the 1980's at some stores. These pens were produced in phenomenal numbers so being available a decade or so later is not hard to believe. The last PFM ad I have is 1965 though, Sheaffer often sold items after ad support had ended. I have more catalogs in this era but, I've not had time to scan - I have them borrowed from Dan Reppert. The production dates for PFM's I would take as accurate. The ads show "Sheaffer'S" on the clips through 1965 after which the clips have no name. I would think that PFM's were made with the same equipment through the end of production so their clips probably maintained the "Sheaffer'S" the entire run. Ads do change in 1964 saying that the company name is "Sheaffer" at that point but, as I said '65 showed "Sheaffer'S" on the clip.

Hi all,

Davefoe - you have now...

I have recently been fortunate enough to get two PFM's. One has the Sheaffer'S (also with a stub nib, which I adore and is now my daily writer),

the other has SHEAFFER. Is the SHEAFFER rare then?

Neither are great images I'm afraid, but I can more if required.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
