Homage To Homer Thread

Thank you. I'm in California and have never ordered from Appelboom before. They are overseas right? No issues with ordering from there and shipping to the USA? I've often wanted to order from European dealers but have always worried about shipping issues to the USA

I have purchased a number of pens from Europe and the only time I have had slow shipping was around Christmas, after the Black Friday sales. This time of year is usually quite fast. The Homer made it to me in a couple of days! Excellent service from Joost, as well as from LcDC.

I am also in CA and order all my new MB from either Appelboom or La Courone du Comte, both in the Netherlands. I have them send the pens to MB for the swap and then they ship to me when they get it back. As MB pens are expensive shipping is free and had tracking and insurance. You also don't pay VAT so you can divide the price in Euros by 1.21. Then multiply by the exchange rate for dollar costs. If you have a credit card with no foreign transaction fees, the exchange rate will be a lot better than PayPal.

My local pen dealer had it exchanged earlier in anticipation of local demand. So I dont have to worry about turn around time of waiting.

Great service!

What did Homer write with back in his days?

Probably clay tablets. I don't know at what time ancient Greeks started using parchment and papyrus (from the Egyptians). Possibly wax tablets. So using stilettos and reeds I guess.

Here is the Iliad version with an OB nib, perfectly complemented with Little Prince Red Fox. It is, without a doubt, the boldest, most daring, most meaningful, most thoughtfully designed, most spectacular Writers Edition in all of the 27 years.

What did Homer write with back in his days?

Actually, by legend, Homer did not write, but orally presented the ejpics. The Blind Poet of Chios.

"Virtually every biographical aspect ascribed to Homer is derived entirely from his poems. Homer is thought to have been blind, based solely on a character in The Odyssey, a blind poet/minstrel called Demodokos. A long disquisition on how Demodokos was welcomed into a gathering and regaled the audience with music and epic tales of conflict and heroes to much praise has been interpreted as Homer’s hint as to what his own life was like. As a result, many busts and statues have been carved of Homer with thick curly hair and beard and sightless eyes."

Hi all, new member but longtime MB fan here. I've already learned lots from you folks and look forward to hanging around in the future. Since this is the Homer thread ... the Homer pens are beautiful and I'm tempted, but did anyone notice that MB kind of messed up with the horse motif? If I remember correctly, the story of the Trojan horse isn't in the Iliad, and is just briefly mentioned in the Odyssey. (The Iliad is mostly about the anger and revenge of Achilles.) The tale of the Trojan horse is recounted in detail in Virgil's Aeneid. Did MB ever do a Virgil pen?

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm curious, what pen cases/pouches are compatible with the homer? MB's Selection and Sartorial 1 Pen Pouches are too small for this.
