If you can find any of the Delta Markario pouches hiding out there, they expand to hold some of the biggest monsters. My Ancora Neptune fits nicely and it’s way fatter than a 149.

Hi all,

First post! :) I couldn't help myself and brought this beautiful pen.

After taking it home i had a good look at it and noticed something strange around the area at the front end of the pen.

It almost looked like a protective plastic film.

After reading through the forums i noticed there were many issues with the surface scratching easily.

Should i assume this is a protective film they have added and let it be?

Or is it a fault in the pen itself?

Please share your thoughts as i'm not sure whether i should back the trip back to my local MB shop.

Kind regards,

The plastic serves the same purpose as the protective film you find on the screen of a new phone, or the crystal of a new watch. The section can be scuffed by the metal cap threads if you aren't careful.

Thanks. I'll try looking for one of these.

Mine rests in a Montblanc Florence hard case.

Cheers

Michael

These are not in stock anywhere. Look pretty nice and roomy.

Congratulations. I removed the film and got a small scuff mark the INSTANT I removed it. Wish MB paid more attention to these details.

Correction, this section WILL be scuffed by the metal cap. I'm VERY careful with my pens and ended up scuffing this section withing 15 seconds of removing the plastic.

Finally ink one of my Homer pens. Took the wrapper of the grip. After CAREFULLY uncapping and capping the pen only 3 times ... the grip is already scratched.

What pen case is this?

I know Franklin Christoph has some pretty good pen case that in this sytle. Personally, I own a 20-pen case, but I beliver they have 40-pen case like this one.

Are the threads in the cap made in metal?

Not completely. There are some plastic and metal parts within the cap and cap threads.

There was a Homer with fine scratches on the section listed on ebay. After there were no bids for several days, I offered the seller $25 over his starting bid and he (or she) accepted. I had reservations about the weight and the shape, but the price was right.

For me the attraction was a writers edition with a big nib, which didn't sell for a king's ransom like Hemingway and Dumas.

It arrived and I can polish out the fine scratches. I can also dull the threads in the cap so the scratches are unlikely to repeat. MB should have thought of that. But if it do that, it would abrade away the gold plating on the peaks of the threads inside the cap. So I'll pass on that for now.

I kept it inked on my desk for a few weeks and decided that it's ok, but not loved. So I gave it a good washing and it's safely in company with other unloved pens. Frankly, I much prefer the 149, and it's light enough to carry along with a more comfy hold to write with.

Personally, I'm not attracted to most MB special editions. It appears to me that MB designers often resort to garish or odd designs in pursuit of something different. I prefer smooth, functional designs.

Interesting.

How did you rework the threads in the cap?

I‘ve tried the same with some micro-mesh but maybe I was too gentle ;-) not sure if it worked on mine.

Cheers

I did not rework the threads, but I said it was doable.

Smoothing the peaks of the few threads nearest the mouth of the cap would probably suffice. I would sand them by hand with sandpaper, about 320 grit, wrapped around a dowel. Alternatively, you could file the threads with a round (or half round) file or stone.

And expensive...

You can get one at Rheinländer#s in Germany. They have quite a bunch of nice rare things in stock.

Had one of these in hand at the weekend, and although lovely, I did not love it enough to bite the bullet.

Spoke to the shop owner about the scratches on the section, and he had also read many reviews of this but the one he handed me to play with had no issues at all.

(BTW: Am I dumb in not seeing the horses head very clearly  )

Quick question guys..

I remember seeing three versions of the MB Homer here on FPN. I think it was on the Homage to Homer thread. One was the all black, one the red and gold and one all gold. Can't seem to find any images of the all gold one. Can someone please share it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
