Wondering what other people use.

I like the organization in the Timbuk2 Uptown currently, but am now looking for more of a briefcase style since I like taking out my stuff with a bag that can sit upright very easily and is not very deep.

Patagonia Headway 22L looks interesting, for example, or any basic messenger bag.

I'll admit that when I'm going to pen club meetings, I have a basket (one of a set of 3 I picked up at Kmart a couple of years ago. The baskets are are flat-bottomed, stackable, and have hand holds on their short sides.

When traveling and need to carry stuff, I use the cheapie (used) laptop bag which came with the used laptop I bought a number of years ago at the local Goodwill Computer store. It used to be a backpack, but one of the straps is disconnected, so it's more of a briefcase/messenger bag at this point. If I'm going someplace overnight, it's big enough for several notebooks and pads, as well as a clipboard, and of course my laptop, cord, external disc drive, back up drive, and (on occasion) my husband's laptop and cord). And it's got a couple of zippered front pockets, including a small one that I throw a flash drive into. Printing on it says "American International" so I guess it was possibly designed for use as carry-on luggage for plane flights.

I used to have Timbuk2's but switched to Tom Bihn bags. Personally I make do with a Cafe Bag (and my Swift tote in a pinch) but they have quite a few messenger and regular briefcase styles that might be up your alley.

My husband has a messenger style briefcase (Id -- retired some time ago, I think) that he's used for nearly ten years. It's still going strong (as are the rest of our TB's).

I think the Cadet, from Tom Bihn is most probably the best option.

The bags have a lifetime warranty and their customer service is exceptional.

You can contact them via email, or instant message or phone during business hours 6am to 3pm Pacific Time, they are located in Seattle.

Bags I bought 12 years ago are still going strong, they look new.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It's very tough to decide between options, but so far my list includes the following...

* Tom Bihn Empire Builder

* Patagonia Headway 22L

* Timbuk2 Command Messenger 22L

* Tenba DNA 15.

The Empire is particularly interesting since it seems geared towards documentation. It comes with 3 hard plastic file folders in fact in the main compartment of the bag. An A4 notebook can sit upright in the main compartment.

Right now leaning towards the Tenba. Going to keep sitting on this and keeping my eyes out.

Tom Bing for functionality, wear and tear, made in USA, value. If you need leather, David King vertical messenger.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I use one of these - keep envelopes, paper, letters I am needing to respond to in it. I can put pens in it, but as much other stuff as I usually have in it there is room for say a few in a case, but my pen wrap won't fit. Right now there is a 100 pack of Tomoe River, Rhodia grip pad and blank all in A4, plus some #10 envelopes and a few other items. I can carry it alone or slip it into my brief bag along with my Classic size Franklin planner and a few other things. I got the brief bag/case at Eddie Bauer about 15 years ago or so. I have had to replace the strap, and there are one or two broken zippers. I just haven't been motivated enough to find one I like.

Supposedly the current version of the Lands End Square Rigger isn't half as good as the original was, but there seem to be a lot of very similar looking tributes on Etsy.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
