Pelikan GO! review

Just got a Pelikan GO! pen from tburke0 this week. It is my second Pelikan, after the M200 I bought a couple of months ago. I have to confess that I like the GO! a lot better.

I know, the GO! is a discontinued school pen that used to sell only in Europe. The nibs don't interchange. The styling is sort of funky. But for half the price of a M200, you get a nice and smooth gold plated nib on a piston-filler pen that is a half-inch longer than the M200.

The M200 (and its bargain sibling , the M150) are more stylish, But if all you want to do is write, this is a great initiation into the Pelikan experience for the price of a cheapie.

Sadly, Pelikan discontinued this pen. But Mr. Burke still has a few more them for sale and they are worth snapping up. They are smooth writers and stoutly built for a mere school pen.

Agree completely, Randy! :)

I have bought two from Tom, and for day in and day out writing pleasure, they're tough to beat! Its not all that dorky looking, either. Grab it and go! You need not worry about losing it or messing it up in a bad environment. The tine alignment is dead on and the slot is the quintessential tapering from feed to tip of tines. Just amazing! :D

These *are* great little pens if you get them for a good price. I had one with a custom stub put on it. It met an untimely death, nib first into the floor, because the cap became loose over time. My second one also suffers from the loose cap syndrome. There's probably a way to fix the caps, or make them stick on the pens better.

I have a coworker and several friends who swear by the Pelikan GO as a good workhorse of a pen. I haven't gotten one yet, so can't vouch for that, but, as I wrote in another post, my Pelikan Future is one of the most solid workhorse pens I've ever had.

The GO is a phenomal pen, great at 4x the price imho.

I really wish someone would make an affordable piston filler again.

I will soon be trying a bargain Shaeffer Javelin. I ordered 4 of them at 5 bucks each plus shipping from Jim at Penhero.com. Three are for gifts and one I'll be trying the ED conversion on. Gotta be the easiest conversion I've ever heard of. :P

Pull out the cartridge and fill it up! :o Oh yes, the advice is to put a bit of silicon grease on the barrel threads. And, if it isn't as good that way as I hope, then put the cart back in and use it that way. I'm told that they are fine writers also. I'm a big fan of those Pel GOs and their classic piston filling systems, but a $5.00 ED... that has great appeal for me, too! :)

I'll keep you posted.

I've had my Javelin for several months now. I did the ED conversion on mine using Gerry's method of using Plumbers Wax. I'm still on my first fill! These guys hold a ton of ink. Writing has always been smooth with great flow!

Hi Christopher,

You should give a try to the Wality 52. Not the quality of a M1000 piston, but for $12 you can't ask that much. Definitely worth a try.

Denis.

TWSBI? Or the highly anticipated (by me) Ahab pen from Noodler's? They seem to fit the bill for your wish.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
