Twsbi Precision Fountain Pen - Released In April '18

An interesting looking pen, and TWSBI should not be so heavily criticised while the horse is just coming out of the stall for trying such a new look and design. The use of so much metal is promising, and I hope I can get a chance try it out in a store before committing to buying one. Yes, I know. I'll keep wishing.

I really like way the pen has a lovely waist. It has that overall look similar to that which I like in a fine tool in my woodworking shop, utilitarian but with touches that are not actually necessary for function. That's style, IMO. Tools like that get used every day. We find ways to work them into our routines sheerly for the pleasure of holding them. Is it just possible that TWSBI broke the mould here, and for the better?

I think a lot of criticism is directed at TWSBI for simply stepping out of line, and breaking into new territory. People had them pegged -or thought they did. Look at how the "cracked barrel" comments are being voiced by owners who have never experienced one, yet are anticipating a crack as a "manifest destiny". As was pointed out (by only one poster, however), TWSBI took steps to address this issue and it is largely a thing of the past. Yet it remains part of the TWSBI persona.

Well, the proof, ultimately, is to get this pen into a variety of writers' hands and see how it works, not in photos, but in in everyday life when paired with the all the popular inks. If it fails as such a writer, design doesn't matter much, does it? But right now, it is a new-born baby and it would be nice to give it a chance to grow up before passing further judgement.

Just my take on welcoming a new pen into the world. As always, IMHO.

Brian

I have had this pen and have been using it for some time now. To me, it...

1. looks good - better in person than it does in pictures

2. writes really well

3. is extremely comfortable

4. is not ostentatious

5. is robust and reliable

In fact, I have now bought two. I liked the first one so much that when I lost it ten days after receiving it, I immediately bought another one. That despite its being quite a lot more expensive than the average TWSBI. (I had never lost a pen before, but must have left it on a train; it's the only explanation.)

I have numerous TWSBIs - Eco, Mini, 580, Vac700 and the Micarta (plus a cracked vac mini; RIP). I intended to buy a Classic last year, but didn't, because I didn't like it when I held it in my hand at a pen show.

Yes, the Precision looks different from the rest of the TWSBI lineup. But that is no bad thing in itself. And it's the TWSBI I can see myself using most.

Your mileage may vary, but if you get a chance to hold it in your hand and try it out, I would encourage you to do so.

It reminds me of Cd'A.

The grip section is long enough and I like the threaded cap and metal construction.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
