Moldy Vacumatic?

Recommended Posts

I noticed a slightly funky smell when opening this Vac, not just camphor but also a bit of funk. It has some buildup that looked like little white gritty dots on the inside of the barrel and more residue coating around the plunger and the filling mechanism collet. It doesn't look like the "furry" mold so I'm not positive if that's what it is, but I didn't want to open it all up and risk contamination. Also, not sure what I could use to disinfect the celluloid without damaging it. I attached a photo. Looking for some advice. Thanks

Im no expert but I use a mix of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar with water (as each of them kills different kinds of mold) and I rinse the pen and let the insides soak with this. Worked for me in the past.

But do wait for experts to say if its safe or not (maybe I got lucky)

That would be bad for the metal parts of the filler.

Looks more like corrosion that mold. I'd try a wire brush.
