At the time you posted that I was considering whether or not to purchase two 24s.

Your recommendation pushed me over the edge, which I appreciate.

This afternoon the two 24s arrived: an EEF and an OF.

They're both exceptionally pleasing writers, with the OF being one of the finest nibs I've ever used.

I would say it is the M by Marc Newson line. It's such a drastic departure from the norm that I don't believe traditionalist are ready to embrace the change.

 

I myself was not a fan of the original resin release, but became a huge fan of the matte M Ultra Black. So much so that I picked up 2 of them.

I would say the most under appreciated MB pen is a modern 149 with stock F or M nibs. Design wise, it moves at a glacial speed, gets 💩 for being made of plastic/precious resin, sports a rather uninteresting nib for the majority of us, and seems that it gets snubbed as a FP in general in ways i have not seen other pens get snubbed. There isnt any demand or appreciation in price due to rarity being in current production. We forget that it works, and just keeps working. It doesnt change because it doesnt need to. People still buy it for what it is, a 149, and not for being on the cutting edge of fashion/trends. It still forms the basis for other special editions, mechanically speaking.

Including vintage pens? — what do we mean by "vintage"? More than 50 years old?

Including stylos, pencils, ballpoints or even rollerballs?

Including different materials?

Including ... ?!?

 

So many possibilities which are so individual, especially if you include the vintage question.

 

I only can say which model of contemporary Montblanc pens is over-appreciated:

I started off in the against camp, but after handling one I switched sides. I like it a lot, but wish it was a piston filler - and the cap not posting is the final straw which keeps me from picking one up.

 

Unless the new colour is SO irresistible, it forces me to buy it.

I think the 144 or old Classique is quite under appreciated since it was replaced with the 145

 

 

I agree about the 144. They seem to sell so cheaply on eBay and from online vendors. I love mine, it was my first MB. I think part of the reason they go under appreciated is their small size relative to the 146 and 149 and the issues that MB had with theses pens cracking when dropped. They represent an excellent value in my opinion and a good first MB or introduction to MB.

The Administrator of Fountain Pen Network cooperates to the extent possible with Montblanc.

As much as possible, yours truly has alluded to the upcoming model, without being too overt.

It's a modest concession to Montblanc's marketing strategies.

I think the excellence of the WWII era stainless steel MB nibs is not a secret anymore. They don't seem to be any cheaper now than the immediate postwar gold versions, maybe because of rarity. But maybe some people still mistakenly reject them.

 

I tend to agree. That's the "psychological impact of gold". I positively know those steel/palladium nibs are great and even then, given the chance of indulging myself on the expenditure that means, say, a 13x model, I'd very much prefer a gold prewar nib just because of gold.

 

But, as you say, others are smarter than me and it shows on their auction prices.

If I'm 'lucky' and guessing correctly, that could be lovely.

 

Re the most underappreciated, I don't understand the lack of love for the Schiller, that was the WE pen that first attracted me. Love the design and material of the Kafka too, it's a beautiful pen.

 

Bohemes don't seem to get a lot of attention, but there are some beauties there too, especially the amethyst steel and the silver stripe.
