Still Any Love For The Discontinued 1912?

Hi there fellow Pen Friends,

Yesterday, I went to a Montblanc Boutique and bought my first pen of the year, my options were 1. Heritage 1912, 2. Solitaire or Classique? 90th Anniversary (the one with the MOP) and 3. 146 Legrand Ultrablack, well, I decided to get the 1912 because it was the last one! there are just a few of them available.

The thing is, I already have a Rouge et Noir Coral in OB, and the nib I find it pretty much the same as the 1912, in shape and feel, I was expecting to be more soft and springy, I got it in Medium because of the bounce I had in mind but is rather stiff to me with very little line variation...maybe it's just me and my expectations.

Anyhow, the pen is gorgeous and I will use it but maybe I will send it for a nib exchange if at the end of the day Medium is not for me.

Cheers,

Luis A.

I have considered sending my Heritage 1912 in for a nib exchange and held off because its (fine) nib is perfect, magnificent...

It will have to go in for service nonetheless because ink is leaking out of the piston knob and it is no longer filling properly. :(

...because I negligently left it in the car overnight. The mercury dropped to -25 degrees Celsius. I believe the ink inside the pen froze, expended and damaged the piston chamber.

Excellent choice. May we see a writing sample? I am contemplating a nib exchange for my Heritage 1912. Thinking of getting a B nib.

Sure thing, later in the evening when I get home I will try to post a writing sample, maybe I will include the Rouge et Noir as well for comparison. :)

Ive heard nothing bad about the Fine nib in 1912 so am considering this, as it will also match its limited ink capacity. But Im so tempted to go Broad...

~ That's a temptation difficult to resist.

A B nib 1912 would be a formidable writer.

Hey guys, does anyone have a EF nibbed 1912? I am really having a hard time deciding between an F and EF...

I wonder if the EF has more line variation... Normal MB EF nibs are a bit like an architect grind right? :S

So here are a couple of samples of the 1912 in Medium and 1906 in Oblique Broad, one in Rhodia dot pad and the other in Tomoe River cream.

Think it depends on the pen. My F nib Cervantes writers' edition has an architect-like point. On the other hand, all of my starwalkers (F and M) are as round as round nibs can be. My Bohemes are pretty round too, as is my MB generation (supposedly an EF nib).

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

I have the F nib on my 1912 and I find it's just nice on most situations but sometimes when I write in smaller spaces, wished it was a little finer.

Lamy 2000 FP, PP, BP, MFP & RB. Mont Blanc Meisterstück 161 Le Grand Platinum BP & Heritage 1912 FP.

Thanks for your input guys! Guess I will go for a fine and first try it out. I can switch within 6 weeks if not satisfied. Will post a writing sample if I decide to switch to EF.

Do you have a regular Montblanc F nib, maybe a recent WE or 146? If so, how does it compare?

They are very similar. Below I am posting two writing samples that give you an indication of what this nib does.

Here are some more samples of the Heritage 1912 Medium nib and other Montblanc pens with different nib sizes.
