What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today? 2025

Thank you Helen,

I have bought it because the material is beautiful, actually - my photo does not do justice to it, but that was the best I could do.

It is an, Extra-fine nib, not very smooth - I had to soften it myself. It is a medium quality nib. Penbbs' are much nicer.

Now that it is softer, the writting is smoother and agreable.

I don't know how I did it, but the sentence fter the photo does not belong to this thread. I have achieved to erase it on my original post. Could you please do the same on the quoting, please, Helen?

Pretttyyyyy!

I just refilled my first (gray) Wing Sung vac-filler with Quink Blue, and my new (coco) one with Waterman Havana brown. Both of the WS pens look grayish to me. But they are really nice to write with, look at, and hold.

I think the model is the 601...

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Had between 1 & 4 WS 601's on me for the last month. Unfortunately a MK2 piston filler in black split it's hood 23 hours after I got it last week. The seller is being unhelpful. This is the second black one that has died on me the same way. The first was one of the notorious MK1 vac fillers. That split after 6 months.

Regards

Richard.

Richard, I had the same problem with my Jinhao 51A ebony wood - barrel split, and the seller wants to refund me 7% of the cost. I do not want a pen with a split half way up the barrel. My split showed up about 20 hrs after its arrival.

if the hood on these hooded nibs breaks its usually due to over tightening of the parts on the coupler , if its the wooden barrel splitting its usually due to the fact that the wood are not dried, aged, and seasoned properly ( likely case here Helen , I had one of theirs and I can tell the wood is too fresh for this kind of need, I then oil and wax mine ) .. I've seen the problem on many such many times ; so sad that these are all avoidable.

Thanks Mech for the insight into the problem. The dark ebony looks nice, and if I order another one I will make sure to oil and wax before using.

Pfft.

The pen is unusable, so you should get 100% back.

For issues that show up soon after arrival I would take a photo of the problem to send to the seller and then open a case through eBay if you do not get a reasonable settlement. In my experience, eBay is very likely to side with you. . Then leave negative feedback with a comment that you had to open a case to get a refund for a defective item. At least as important as getting your money back is letting other potential buyers know about the problem. Any seller will have defective items from time to time but most will address the issue immediately. When that happens I leave positive feedback stating that.

Some proactive things one can do:

Know you are taking a risk if the feedback percentage is less than 99% -- there are plenty of sellers above 99%. Look at actual feedback for a seller, not just the overall percentage. Recently I noticed a seller whose negative feedback was mainly due to a single troublesome item. (Of course I would check their listings to see if they continue to list that item anyway;-) A seller with many sales is more likely to know eBay rules and customs. Recently I had a very unpleasant battle with a seller who had 100% feedback but I noticed too late that it was entirely based on purchases. The person had never sold before, and seemed to be making up their own rules based on what they thought was how things should work, in ignorance of eBay rules and traditions. I had to open a case to return the item and appeal to eBay a second time when the seller broke eBay rules.

I also find it helpful to look at the other items a seller has listed or in their store. A wide variety of pens is a good sign; just one pen or two among thousands of pieces of junk jewelry is not. Such a seller may have no idea what a "section" or "nib" are which can hamper communication is there is a problem. Ditto for a listing in broken English; ask if this is someone you will be able to communicate with if there is an issue. Many eBay sellers in China are just taking orders for items they have never seen that will be shipped from a warehouse. Sometimes they will seek to blame said warehouse, but my take is that the person who took your money is the person responsible for refunding it;-)

Lastly, do not forget to give positive feedback to any seller who has served you well!-)

Got the medium nibs for my WG 3008. I am growing to appreciate the WS 3008; holds a lot of ink; very little start up issues; actually finding a nice ink flow with the medium nibs. I could hardly believe how smooth the nibs are. Had some Ebay bucks, and ordered three Lanbitou 3059 (purple; green; light blue). Hoping the WS 3008 nib fits on the Lanbitou 3059.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
