236 Has Arrived!

I now have one of my 3 grail pens! I opened up the package today and got it out. Inside was a 236 in incredible condition. Unlike so many times when Ive imagined a pen and then been slightly underwhelmed, the 236 is everything I had imagined it would be. There is heft to this pen. It is everything I ever wanted in my 234 1/2s but bigger. It has a gold number 6 nib that I rarely see (with 14 Karat as the top banner instead of Montblanc, and the 6 in the snow cap underneath). Pictures will be forthcoming. The blind cap is marked fine and the nib is most certainly a fine too. Im drooling and hope you all will be too after I post pics. Happy day!

I have a 234 1/2, so it's nice to know they made that in medium-large 'also'.

I really like my semi-flex 234 1/2 KOB.....sigh....and now find out it's got a bigger brother.

Semi-flex or maxi-semi-flex nib?

Thats exactly how I felt when I first learned about the 236. I love my 234 1/2s but always wished there was a bigger version. Well there was! Theres so little info posted about the 236 compared to most others. I think youll love it once I get to work and get pics uploaded.

Congrats on finding such a nice example of the 236. It took me two years to find mine and I love the nib. Like you I love the 234 1/2. I collect all of the different variations.

Nice pen. Does it also have a bouncy nib?

It has a little flex but not too much. It's better than any of the nibs on my modern Montblanc's. My 234 1/2's nibs have the slight edge on flex. This nib looks and feels more like an extra-fine. It took me the better part of a full page in my journal to find the sweet spot. What more can I say? This 236 is great. The weight is fantastic and the amount of ink it holds is enormous. I was turning the piston knob for what felt like forever.

I bought one in 2007, the owner had bought it in Hannover in 1947 at a Trade Fair, the pen was a complete mess and the only salvagable part was the cap, mine went to Francis who did an astonishingly good job.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
