Trilogy / Zero - Pens

Introduction; When I first received the box, I was somewhat excited! But not at the Box, as it was all Black, and too the point. The ends are somewhat hard to open, so you'll need a letter opener to help you open the box without ripping the ends. Then the interest builds, as when I took the sleeve out of the box, it contained a wooden object, with the words ZERO stamped on it. Sliding that off, I can finally see the pen, and it is NICE! Taking the LARGE pen in hand, makes me feel that I spent my money correctly, as this to me feels like a Solid Pen!

1. Appearance & Design (08-10) The Theme to this pen, in my opinion, is one of being a "Modern" Pen. The finish is one of a Matt

Black Semi-Gloss. And it is made of ALL Aluminum, which I find interesting. As far as the design; It is a reasonably plain pen, with both

ends being Flat.

2. Construction & Quality (10-10) This Pen feels very solid, and I find no manufacturing seams or flaws! It does not feel flimsy or rugged, and this is one pen that I would not fear dropping on a solid surface and fear it breaking!

3. Weight & Dimensions (10-10) In my opinion, this is a LARGE Fountain Pen, lengthwise.....Here are all the

dimension's; Closed Cap = 5.9" x Posted = 6.4" The Barrel Circumference is; .57" and the Cap = .57", and it tapers

down at each end. Weight = 38.90g These are all approximate number's. The weight is due to having a full cartridge

of ink on board. While this is in my opinion a LARGE pen, I believe that it will fit the hands of most people! I would

NOT however, Post this Pen, due to the material's it is made of, as I would be leary of scratching the Matt Black finish

4. Nib & Performance (04-10) The nib size I chose was a Fine Black Nib! Herein lies a problem......When I wrote with the

pen, I had to write hard! That should not have been! So I contacted the folks at TriLogy Pens.com and told them of the issue. They told me that they were starting to find out of this problem recently and were working to correct it.

That was Wednesday, two days ago, and as I'm writing this I just received my mail and the new Nib and parts are there. Fast Service.....To say the least....But If I was a newby, I would just keep suffering and writing hard, vs them

sending out a mailer to the people who purchased the Black nib's which is where the issue is happening! Onto the

rest; The Nib's come in - Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, and Bold. Silver Gold and Black, all Plated. The pen's also come in either Silver or Black. The Gold and Silver nibs write with some spring. But the Black is more Stiff, but writes smooth.

I don't know if a nib of a different size will switch in, but I am gonna find out tonight, about how difficult it is to do a

nib swap, when I go to put the replacement nib in, around 10:00pm.

5. Filling System & Maintenance (10-10) - This is a Cartridge / Converter Pen, and it comes with a Converter which is

nice. As far as how much ink it holds? I have not measured it, but I would say that it holds just as much as any other

typical Converter..... To clean the pen, I would think that it is a typical clean? Nothing gets my attention as far as

anything making this pen any more difficult than any other pen.....I don't know yet how to change the nib, but I will

come 10:00pm tonight.

6. Cost & Value (10-10) I bought this pen from the Manufacturer. The MSRP was as best as I can tell $65.00. + Shipping. Which is what I paid.....Brand New! There was a better price some time ago I believe on KS.com This price

I paid is quite a bit lesser than what I usually pay for Fountain Pen's, so I am reasonably happy at this point until I put

that new nib and parts in tonight and write with it, Hoping it writes like it's supposed to.

7. Conclusion (Final score, 52/60) - I generally like this pen as a whole! With the exception of the problem I ran into with

the nib. Would I buy this pen again? YES, but maybe with a different nib, although, I did reorder a Black nib - Fine

to replace the problem nib :-) The reason for ordering the same nib is that they gave me their word that they would test it, and make sure that it writes the way it should! But I would be curious about one of the Gold nibs and the

spring in it? Would I recommend this to other's? Yes, after I tell them to read my REVIEW.

Thanks for the review and the heads-up on this new pen ChiTown. I just visited their website and I'm really intrigued.

Two questions for you: do you find the black finish collects fingerprints? And how do you find the aluminum section? Like other people on FPN I've often had problem with higher-gloss metal sections slipping as you write. I haven't tried an aluminum section yet, so I'm curious as to how you've found it.

Awesome review.

Late last night I installed the NEW NIB and FEED. I'm here to report that the pen NOW act's just as Matt, from TriLogypens.com told me that it would with the NEW Nib. In other words, it writes effortlessly, just like it was designed to.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
