Lanbitou Eco 3059 Just Arrived

and they are so similar.

anyway, it may look like TWSBI ECO
but its not in the same league at all

Great for rough use , not for showing off.

I have one, ordered a 4 pack since it goes for $12 on amazon.

 

I am not a huge fan of the nib mine came with, it needed smoothing to take off some scratchiness, and even then, it and the wing sung 3008's F lamy nibs are too smooth for my taste. If you like super smooth, it's your ticket, but I put the nib from a wing sung 6359 on it (EF, pretty much perfect toothiness) and like it much more. Honestly, not a deal breaker if you have a lamy Z50 nib to swap, or just buy a 6359 for the nib, which is like $3.

 

I like that the piston knob clicks over to secure once you draw it up completely. And I like that the cap posts securely on an O ring. The section also has an O ring for the cap to seal against, but the clip creates an air gap that lets it dry out. What I did was remove the clip (philips screw in the cap) take a dab of bathroom sealant on the end of a Q tip and put it up against the clip hole from the inside, and then reassemble. Now it doesn't dry out.

 

I don't love the faceted grip like a lamy has, I like the wing sung 3008 more in that regard. But they both accept lamy Z50 nibs, so if you want an OB, OM, stub, the gold Z50 from a studio, whatever you want, it'll pop right on.

So I just got mine yesterday. All I have to say is that it feels cheap just like the CaliArts Ego piston filler. The Wing Sung 698 feels sturdy, but the plastic here feels much lighter in comparison. I flushed the feed, however, it still writes like (bleep) even worse than the the Caliarts Ego. Also the nib dried out over night. 1/5 would not buy or recommend. Also, I don't like how the piston isn't locked in. But the cap is really nice.

Well done, TWSBI! Standing next to companies like Parker and MontBlanc in the list of chinese copied brands is definitely an accomplishment!

That must have been one of the first release examples: it uses the same piston drive (except piston knob) as the Wing Sung 3008, the first release versions of both pens do not "click" when the piston is screwed in, and the second release of both pens offer that. From what I can find out, the majority of 3058 examples have the "click", but the first and second release versions of the 3008 seem to be all mixed up: i have two ostensibly identical 3008s and one clicks, one does not.

I have had one of these for a couple of weeks.

Mine is completely clear & the nib is hooded. Through the clear material it is obviously nothing like the nibs on the pens in the video.

Excuse me: But those are nothing like a Lamy nib. At a rough guess maybe a #5, but what do I know?

So.. The pen is not rated very highly? Maybe mine represents another production change?

I bought it because it said that it had a fine tipped nib, which it actually does. It is actually finer than on my pair of Jinhao X750. I need to do something about those. Only my Safari is finer (by a hair) & that has the Lamy EF nib, the finest available.

I am well aware that the Lanbitou 3059 is supposed to be a clone of a TWSBI Eco. I have never heard of them. Are they Chinese/Asian/Indian?. I don't remember off-hand what the Lanbitou cost me, but I wouldn't have paid much for it. The Eco seems to be around 44 UKP on ebay For that price it should be a lot better & have nib options ex-factory.

 

The problem with improving a purchased pen is that it may mean buying a third-party nib that is three or four times what the pen cost. It makes me think twice about doing anything about my pair of Jinhao X750. I am sure the sale price is nothing like what the damn things really cost to make & ship, no matter what bit of pen-porn we are tempted by.

I picked up one of these Lanbitou 3059s too. The nib definitely isn't good as the TWSBI, but for the opportunity to try a fine nib (every other pen I have is medium or larger), and try an ink I own but haven't put in any pens yet because I'm not certain of it (Diamine Apple Glory), it was worth it as such a cheap cost.

I got one in red with the hooded XT nib. The nib was not too exciting but when I tried to use this as my EDC it earned the nickname of "Neveready" because it usually took a fair amount of fussing to get it to write every time I tried to use it. I kept the cap because it fit another more reliable pen -- I like the part of the pen protruding from my shirt pocket to signal the ink color -- but the rest of this pen went in the trash.
