Back before law school, I was a computer girl (which is another story). I went to CES and Comdex (yes, I'm that old). At CES one year, I met the team for Logitech who was developing the IO pen. I was a beta tester. Let's get real, it's not a fountain pen.

 

So, decades have gone by - have these digital pens improved?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 12.1, and it has a pen. I think the handwriting recognition software is pretty good compared to what I experienced before. It's even good at recognizing my cursive. Still a lot of quirks though, especially when it comes to editing something. Haven't tried the Apple Pen or the Microsoft pen.

 

There's something missing in the feel compared to paper. It's still writing on glass. If there was more of a matte texture on the screen that would help. And being able to have two pages on a screen simultaneously may be nice.

 

I saw in your post you were a computer geek turned law student. I used to study Computer Engineering, then years later I went to law school. I've been to Comdex too... gosh that must have been more than 30 years ago. Grew up using a TRS-80 Model II. Even still I get to use some of my rusty programming skills and write a program or two (Perl & VBA... Trying to squeeze in Python). I work in eDiscovery now which is more of a tech oriented area.

@Mister, OMG - my first computers were a PCJr and an IBM PC-XT AT with a 20 mb Hard card which were told we would NEVER FILL.

 

My favorite of the pens worked with my palm pilot. It was a cross pen that went onto a digital backboard and then communicated with the palm IIIc. I loved it. I know I still have it around here somewhere.

Well, back then 20MB was a whole lot of storage. I recall my Father getting a 80mb Hard Drive for a PC-AT for $700. Not even adjusting for inflation 16GB (which you might get on a smartohone and also way faster) would cost $143,920. Technology has come a long way. You must have have had a pretty sophisticated set up to get the PalmPilot to work with a digital backboard. I was lucky to figure out how to sync the thing but was pretty adept at Graffiti.

OM - I just found another one. It was the Seiko Smart Pad. This gadget was my favorite of the digital items.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
