Lamy Usa Distributer Change - Price Increases

It appears Lamy in the USA has a new distributer and prices went up. Basic things like converters and ink are in the 15-20% range. Pens and other items less, but the dollar amounts are high.

This is unfortunate after the LE ink debacles for the past couple of years coupled with the EF nib issues.

Hi Morphling, et al,

This probably explains why the new Aion is selling for $72 here when the Lamy Store is selling it for $56 USD, (but they won't ship to the State's).

It seems Lamy is going out of it's way lately to shoot itself in the foot.

Thanks for the "heads-up."

Definitely. And not just in the US.

I went into a B&M store in a mid-sized town in Germany a few days ago and asked them when the Aion would be available - I'm back there in a few weeks, so I thought I'd buy it from a physical store.

Blank looks.

They rely on a Lamy sales rep for their information and they didn't know when their rep would be back. The pen isn't visible on their ordering system, even though I could order it from Lamy directly if I wanted.

To be clear, this is a specialist stationer and office supply store. They sell Lamy products. They have a wall of Safaris, AL-Stars and children's fountain pens, plus some more up-market Lamy models under glass.

A friend told me last year about going into a Birkenstock store in the centre of a city in Germany, not finding shoes his size and being told that he would be better off ordering what he wanted from Amazon. Yes, it's a different industry, but the phenomenon of ignoring one's specialist B&M outlets seems to be similar. To me it's a dangerous pathology. Perhaps it's something some companies face when they reach a certain size.

Whatever Lamy is presently going through, let's hope they recover soon.

Well, the exchange rate between the euro and the US dollar has changed during the last six months. Things priced in euros are more expensive in dollars now. I suppose that could be one cause for the price increase as well.

I just called the new dudes...

It wasn't for price increases or anything, but they seem to be nice people.

The website is a little ugly looking though.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
