Is There A Converter For This Pen?

Hi Everyone,

A friend of mine asked me to try to get a couple of her pens working. She had let ink dry in them (in one case _India Ink_, ouch) and it seems to just be a matter of lots of flushing.

One has a converter, but for this one, she only had cartridges.
I don't generally use cartridges, so I don't know if this is a standard size (and thus might have a corresponding converter) or not.

I believe the pen is Chinese. The barrel band has 'Dryden' engraved, and the nib is marked 'GENIUS IRIDIUM.'
The pen is black lacquer over metal (brass?) and farily slim. It has a clip cap.

Is anyone familiar with this pen, and more importantly whether there is a converter that will fit it?

I've been using an ear bulb to flush it so far, but would like to return the pen to her with a converter so she can use other inks than just the washed out black from the carts.

Thank you very much,
greg

Yes, Ther should be a convertor that fits it. It appears to be a Duke like pen, and thus may take a Duke Convertor. And as I recall, the Duke Convertor appears to be the same as the Waterman C/C. So, if you have a Duke or Waterman Convertor, try it.

Thanks for the response. I don't have either kind of converter. The little reading I've done raises some question about the consistent interchangability of Waterman converters into Duke pens, so I'm picking up a couple Duke-specific ones. Will see how it goes.

Thanks for your help.

you can take that old converter and measure the throat and outer diameter and made a judgment.

The Duke-specific converters I got on Amazon worked perfectly.

Thanks for the help!

Your welcome, now, please let us know how it writes. The Duke I have has smooth, but very hard nib which I have found not as well to my liking as the Wing Sung I have.

Seemed to write fine. I was resurrecting it for one of my doctors, and she is very pleased with it.

In the meantime, there is no reason the pen cannot continue using the cartridge that obviously fits.

Use a medical-type syringe and needle (larger is better) to fill the cartridge with water. Let it soak, to dissolve the old ink. WORK OVER A SINK. Injecting clean water into the cartridge will flush out the old inky water. Then, injecting air will blow out the rinse water, and dry the inside of the cartridge.

Carefully inject bottle ink.

True, but with four brand new converters, refilling cartridges will be an emergency measure.

Thanks, greg

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
