Handwritten Mini Pen Reviews

aggoo

Recommended Posts

I am starting this thread for people like me who have far too many pens to use regularly, and find that sometimes pens once loved are languishing in a drawer or cupboard somewhere waiting to be rediscovered.

I have a relatively modest collection by the standards of many members of this community, but having over 100 means I haven't inked some pens in a long time.

The purpose of this thread is to encourage me to go through my entire collection over the next few months or so and dip/ink each pen and write a short review using the actual pen being reviewed. I will probably add a post every 2 or 3 days - let me know if you're bored.

Please feel free to follow suit and add your own contributions if you feel the function of the thread resonates with you too. The more variety the better.

Perhaps I can suggest a few basic guidelines:

1) The review should be written on a single side of A4/A5 using the pen under review.

2) Being a short review, it should focus on the pertinent feature of each particular pen, be it a special nib, mechanism or filling system, decoration or design.

3) Perhaps we limit each review to 4 pictures - one of the handwritten review and 3 images of the pen.

Once again, feel free to suggest other ideas and please do contribute your own reviews and comments.

That would be a very good way of getting to use some of your pens over a period of time.

BTW, you have got a hell of a pen there! Appears to be an ED filler, isn't it ?

Cartridge or converter. It is in the handwritten text, not to mention I have the same pen (same size) without the gold flashings down the side. I agree with the review, even thiugh I hold my pen a little higher than aggoo

Yeah. The point is to rediscover why I purchased some of these pens in the first place, and to see if I can switch my rotation in to something more fun over the next few months.

Thanks for your comments on the Waterman. It is a lovely pen indeed. It is actually a cartridge/converter, but it isn't loaded with a converter at the moment because it hasn't been used for a while.

Hi aggoo, I like your idea! However, since I browse the FPN forums on my small screen mobile I find it rather difficult to read bigger chunks of handwriting. I think that havintg a typed version of the review content would be still helpful at least for some of us.

Bravo for a great idea ... especially the hand-written part. It will be very interesting to see how your handwriting will change with the different pens you will use.

Maybe increase to two pages for Broader nibs?

Anyway, it's such a great looking pen and it's one I'd love to have at one point.

Thanks for all the encouraging comments so far.

Some good ideas. I think for broader nibs, I'll use an A4 sheet rather than A5.

With regards to the valuable suggestion of having a typed review for those viewing on phone screens, that's something I will look in to. For the more interesting pens, I may put up a formal review as per most other reviews on this forum, and those will be typed up.

In the meantime, here is the 2nd pen. A St Dupont Gatsby

I like this idea. Writing full reviews is hard. I may post on this thread.

Thanks Ron for your kind comment. Well worth picking one up, and if you don't mind one in this user grade condition, probably available for about $200. You're welcome to PM if interested.

I'll stick up pen number 5 - A Parker Duofold I use regularly. Gorgeous nib.

Wow, you have real gems in your collection :)

Thank you so much. I do have so many beautiful pens which is why I'm doing this project. If I don't use them a little, I can't appreciate them properly. Plus it's always nice to share what I have with others.

Lovely pens. Seeing that cute Exception makes me want to ink up my Waterman Elegance for the first time in more than two years!

It might be nice to know, in each case, whether the pen was dipped or inked.

In response to ENewton,

Pens 1 and 2 were dipped in water to release ink in the feed, which is why they are a little washed out.

Pens 3, 4, 5 and 6 were all inked.

Here we have pen number 7 - a modern Conway Stewart Duro in Sterling Silver and Lava acrylic.
