Blackstone (Scents Of Australia) Blue Cypress

More of these new Blackstone inks. As I said in the other reviews, I love these Blackstone inks for their wetness and lubrication. They are really wet inks, but they manage to keep feathering and bleeding to a minimum. Great job.

I've always had a hard time capturing these blue-green colours with camera or scanner. They always come up much bluer than what I see. These kinds of colours can also be perceived differently under different lighting. I can only tell you that this one is slightly bluer than Iroshizuku Ku-jaku and Sailor Yama-dori, greener than Robert Oster Fire & Ice.

Comparison

Sorry for the bad lighting. The ink is so wet that it looks very dark here. Blue Cypress is much bluer than Blue Gum.

@Lgsoltek, I see what you mean about your scans turning up bluer than the "real life" ink: Your Blue Cypress scans look more like Blue Gum to me - in my experience Blue Cypress is more of a green-blue, and Blue Gum more of a blue-green, though both are on the same blue-to-green spectrum.

Hmm, I just saw a comparison from dcwaites. My Cypress looks like his Gum and my Gum his Cypress. I'm not sure whose samples are mixed up. My Blue Cypress looks bluer, and my Blue Gum is greener, like the swabs on Blackstone's site:

Very confusing - my inks line up with @Dcwaites, Blue Gum being bluer and Blue Cypress greener. What makes it curiouser is that on his promotional "cheat sheet", Blue Gum is described as blue-green and Blue Cypress as green-blue, but the ink swatches appear (to me) to be the other way around (as per the above post)...

Kevin sent me two bottles of Blue Gum (a mix-up that means I don't have a full bottle of Australian Bush), and both were the bluer colour. Strange that you're getting a different result!

Mishka5050 who sent me the samples had the same observation as I did: Blue Cypress - blue, Blue Gum - green. Blackstone's official swabs and text description are rather contradictory indeed. Well only Kevin can answer this question then...

I'm sorry for the confusion with Blue Gum and Blue Cypress. I just checked the Blackstone website and the Blue Gum and Blue Cypress swatches had been transposed. They are both blue/green inks and can look very similar. I did debate about whether to release two inks so similar but the scents of both the Blue gum and Blue Cypress were just too appealing despite the similarity in colour.

Blue Gum is a definite blue colour with a hint of green and Blue Cypress has a very definite greenish tint. Both inks contain the same blue and green dyes only in different proportions and while I am very pleased with the two inks, on reflection it was probably not a good idea to use the same blue and green dyes. With different nibs, paper and lighting they can look very similar at times and it can be difficult to separate them in scans and photographs.

Once again, my apologies for the mix-up and I have changed the swatches and descriptions.

Thank you Kevin for clearing this up! I guess the samples of Mishka and mine got mixed up. I need to change the title of this review!

When I got the Blue Cypress and Blue Gum, I thought they were the same ink in different bottles, so I mixed them together for a super sized bottle of blue-green / green-blue ink —with incredible sheen. Works really well!

Thank you for another amazing review! I love the colour, but am put off that it has a scent. I have JHerbin's Rose that, whilst has a pleasant rose scent, it it overwhelming.

Different strokes for different strokes, I guess, but I don't find the scents with these inks overpowering. Definitely worth trying to get a whiff (if you can) before ruling them in or out...

Interesting, the base color on the middle photograph is a very similar shade to the Montblanc MST Diamond Blue I just finished writing out a mini-review for (not posted), other than that DB lacks any sheen, and also has almost no shading in my Parker 51 pen it came with. This looks great, I'm much less impressed with the Diamond Blue.

Sadly any whiffy things have to be ruled out, have suffered from migraines in the past and don't want to go there again for love of inks (or beautiful perfumes) nor any thing else!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
