List your Collection of Fountain Pens

J English Smith

Recommended Posts

I realized after I placed my last order that I have a fair sample of fountain pens, but that I have been very judicious with buying FPs for my collecting over 35 years...my life is pretty balanced between fountain pens, rollerballs, pencils and ballpoints. I love 'em all! (I know you'll understand.)

My fountain pens are:

1. Parker Duofold Senior, 1928 - gift from my father. It started me off. I love to fire it up and hold it (carefully). I love the Mandarin yellow ones, but doubt I'll ever have enough change to acquire one.

2. (Corrected with help from Shaeffer friends) Shaeffer "46 Special" in black DuPont plastic circa 1924-6 - got years ago, don't remember where - writes pretty good for an 83 year old that's probably never been serviced.

3. Parker 61 even gold top/grey body - my Uncle's pen, inherited. It was uninked, which was a crime.

4. Parker 75, 1969 - with both M and XF nibs - bought as a present for my mother, later "regifted."

5. Montblanc 146, 1977 - F - bought while in college for the princley sum of $90. It writes wonderfully, what can you say? (Maybe not worth $500 today? But definitely ok for $90.)

6. Waterman Laureat, mid 80's flattop version - bought from a co-worker who didn't want it. (A very pleasant writer. Someday I'd like to have a more expensive Waterman because I like this one so much.)

7. Parker Vector (2) M and F - surprisingly pleasant - and, well, don't have to worry about dropping 'em.

8. Lamy Safari - current production, M nib - wet and nice.

9. Lamy Vista (2) - both F - the fine nibs are wonderful too.

10. Lamy Al-Star (2) - one M/Silvergreen, the other F/Aluminum - gee, can you tell that I love this form factor? They were cheap on eBay and I couldn't resist. Those colors!

11. (Added) Ohhh, I forgot - Pelikan Level 5 in blue/black with F nib - great nib for steel, nice tight line, huge ink chamber. I wish you could post the cap but I'm getting used to it. A great desk pen because of the holder.

12. And now, at last, a Lamy 2000 - I don't know the nib yet - but for the price, I wasn't asking questions, just buying. Wanted one for 20+ years.

I have tried to get a Parker 51 bidding low - not working for me. I will just have to pay the freight and get one from a real dealer someday.

Anyone feel like sharing their collections?

Anyone feel like sharing their collections?

Including an M200 Green & Black Pelikan with OM nib which I just won on eBay (ordered a Binder F nib to go on it, will probably put the OM on Marketplace), and three others which are supposed to be in transit, my FP collection (I am on lunch hour at the office and don't have access to the BP & RB at home) consists of:

1 Pelikan M200 in Green & Black

1 Pelikan M100 EF in White

1 Pelikan Grand Prix M in Orange(!!)

1 Parker 51 in maroon, F nib

1 Parker 45 in black & CT, M (with matching BP, as a set)

1 Parker 45 in red, F (in transit fm eBay)

3 Parker Jotters in assorted colors, F (had 4, gave one to 19 year old son)

2 Parker Vectors in assorted colors, F

1 Parker 21 (arrived today)

3 Green Cross Solo F with Converters

1 Lanbo Silver Duo point M/F converter only

1 Yibo 121 Blue Ruby M converter only

2 Charles-Hubert Paris Green Plaid F

1 Charles-Hubert Paris Red Plaid F

4 Sailor INK PEN F (from Jared on FPN - 3 are for my grandchildren, 1 for me)

Waterman Phileas Green Marble F

Waterman Phileas Green Marble M

I am still coveting a Pilot 78G and/or Knight, and possibly some Wality eyedroppers.

Donnie

Edited to add 2 Parker pens in transit, and correct nib size from EF to F on one.

Edited to note P 21 received, and add Pilot 2A, which arrived 5/24/2007 (forgot - it was from FPN Marketpalce Art Addict)

Hi. A modest number in a year of collecting:

Delta Dolce Vita Stout

Namiki Bamboo

Parker 75 Cisele

Pelikan M600 (Old Style)

Pelikan M800

Omas 360

Visconti Van Gogh

Waterman L'Etalon

Can't decide on a Aurora Optima/88 or a Pilot Custom 823 to add to the collection!

Ooooh, I'll play. I'm fairly new here, but I've always felt lost without a fountain pen...since joining/lurking here the compulsion to buy has stepped up a notch though

Parker Jotter (stainless steel...does this make it a Flighter?)

Parker Sonnet silver chiseled tartan

Parker Reflex

Lamy Studio x3 (2 mysteriously started leaking after taking them in a high-speed lift, but I love this pen so bought another...and another. Then I realised I could have sent them back to Lamy. Doh!)

Lamy Alu-star

Lamy Joy

Pelikan Pelikano

Cross Century II silver

Pilot Capless/Namiki VP

Pilot Birdie

Tombow Object

Nothing really high-end, and the two silver pens were gifts. Parker 51 on its way, once the seller, the Royal Mail and myself all get our acts together. I'm sure I have about half a dozen Lamy Safaris somewhere, but can't find any of them at the mo... think my obsession started after my parents bought me a white Safari (the stormtrooper one!) A Sigma Style with italic nib is next on the wish list.

I'll try again, as last time for some reason the browser suddenly crashed...

Shaeffer Targa Slim Flighter

Parker 45 Harlequin (black shields)

Parker Duofold, green (aerometric, 1950's I think, my Dad's pen)

Parker Classic Flighter (looks like a 180, but only writes one way up, 18th birthday present)

Shaeffer Stylist, gold finish (also Dad's pen)

Parker Shadowwave Vacuumatic (my great uncle's pen)

Waterman Carene, orange (also ball pen, roller ball and pencil)

Cross Townsend Matt Black (also pencil and roller ball)

Parker Falcon, brown

Pelikan honey

Dunhill Sidecar black (and pencil)

Parker 75 Cisele

Pelikan Level 5

Parker 25 and BP

Conway Stewart 58 blue herringbone

Faber Castell E motion and pencil

Parker 100 blue

Lamy 2000

I'm pretty certain that's all. Not for long though!

Sometimes I feel the need to reduce my already small collection to the size of collection. It kind of makes sense (in my mind, anyway) to have a few pens you use regularly than a ton of pens that rarely see any ink.

No way I'm going to list them all - I don't even know how many there are - I'm guessing around 200 - but I don't want to take the time to hunt them all up. As an alternative, I'll list what I can see from my desk chair - without turning around or digging in my bag or my desk drawer. FP's only, of course.

5 Esterbrooks: 2 transitionals, 1 J, one dipless desk pen; and 1 Dollar bandless

1 Rotring Core

1 Sensa Meridian

4 Parker "51"s

1 Parker 45

1 Parker 61 Signet

1 Waterman Executive (I think)

1 Skyline

3 Parker Striped Dofolds

1 Sheaffer touchdown

1 Sheaffer Flat top jade

1 Sheaffer Balance Red & Grey veined

2 Sheaffer Sentinel Deluxe (My granddad's and dad's pens)

1 Sheaffer Touchdown desk pen.

3 Sheaffer & one Streamline Combo - all unrestored

Most of these are inked and ready to go.

May we live, not by our fears but by our hopes; not by our words but by our deeds; not by our disappointments but by our dreams.

I tend to sell my pens that I know I'm not going to use, so I've owned many more than this. I have a pen case that holds 10 pens, so I try to keep my collection to 10. I think I need another pen case.

When I was fourteen years old, I was amazed at how unintelligent my father was. By the time I turned twenty-one, I was astounded how much he had learned in the last seven years.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
