Kaweco Sport Nib Collar Cracked - Has This Happened To Anyone Else?

I have a huge sad :( for the past few days, my always with me Kaweco Classic Sport has been inexplicably leaking, from only the nib collar. The feed and nib were clean, but the nib COLLAR was covered in ink.

Inexplicably at the time, it would only leak when in my pocket, clipped and so upright, but on an angle. At first I really thought some ink had gotten between the cap and cap liner. When I got home to give it a good cleaning, I realized on close examination that the nib collar itself is cracked!

I filled around the nib collar with epoxy and it's currently laying on its side...lets see of it leaks.

Worse case, I buy a new one and have spare parts. Still, I didn't expect this! :(

Update: so far so good. I don't know that this will be a lasting solution, but here's hoping!!!

Good luck with the fix. I have and use a couple of Kaweco Sports. I take them to meetings.

Did you pull the collar/sleeve along with the nib and feed from the section? I'd want to isolate the collar/sleeve and put epoxy on only that. Otherwise you could get some epoxy in the ink channel or you could end up epoxying the nib and/or feed to the collar/sleeve, or even epoxying the collar/sleeve to the section, which would complicate future part swapping with the pen.

I learned the hard way that with the Kaweco Sport classic models the sleeve that contains the nib and feed can be pushed out of the section. So there is the possibility of fixing the pen with other parts, and even of putting in a new nib that finer or broader than what the pen came from the factory with.

I have had problems with Kaweco Sports, and a cracked collar/sleeve might even be one of them. I'll have to look at the ones that puke ink on me, and which are retired, and see if I can detect a crack in the collar/sleeve. Most of mine are the "metallic" model, where the collar is factory glued into the section. I may now pull the nib and feed from some of those and see if the collar/sleeve is cracked. In a metallic there's be no problem epoxying the crack, since I'd have the nib and feed out of the pen and the collar/sleeve is already permanently attached to the section.

I have been thinking that my ink puking problem with the Kaweco Sport metallic models has been due to the plastic used concentrating heat inside the barrel and making the ink gush. Maybe instead it's a cracked part causing the problem. I'll look.

On a sacred quest for the perfect blue ink mixture!

Kaweco were very accomodating with me when I asked for Sport parts (I wanted an old style finless feed and a steel cap finial).

If you write I'm sure they'll sell you a new collar.

I was under the impression that the collar was glued into the plastic models and not removable so I didn't even try to separate them. So far the glue has held. I stopped carrying it though because the nib just isn't as fine as I like.
